Pay Rate: $29.26 per hour

Health & Welfare: $7.50 per hour


About the Role 

The HVAC Technician (Chiller Specialist) is responsible for the operation, maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, repair, and installation of HVAC, refrigeration, and commercial/industrial chiller systems supporting federal government facilities. The position ensures HVAC and mechanical systems operate safely, reliably, and efficiently while meeting applicable federal regulations, contract requirements, manufacturer specifications, and industry standards.

 

What You'll Be Doing

  • Performs preventive, corrective, predictive, and emergency maintenance on HVAC, refrigeration, and commercial/industrial chiller systems.
  • Inspects, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains chillers, chilled-water systems, cooling towers, pumps, piping, valves, and associated mechanical equipment.
  • Monitors equipment performance and operating conditions to identify potential issues and prevent system failures.
  • Services HVAC electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and control systems, including Building Automation Systems (BAS), Direct Digital Controls (DDC), sensors, actuators, and Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).
  • Performs refrigerant recovery, leak detection, evacuation, charging, and system testing in accordance with EPA regulations, manufacturer requirements, and established procedures.
  • Diagnoses equipment malfunctions and develops recommendations for repairs, upgrades, modifications, or replacement to improve system reliability and energy efficiency.
  • Responds to service calls, equipment failures, and emergency maintenance requirements within contractually established response times.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints, electrical and mechanical schematics, technical manuals, equipment documentation, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Assists with equipment installation, replacement, startup, testing, balancing, and commissioning activities.
  • Maintains accurate maintenance records, service reports, inspection documentation, and other required work-order information.
  • Coordinates with other maintenance personnel and trades as necessary to complete work safely and efficiently.
  • Maintains a clean, organized, and safe work environment and properly secures tools, equipment, and work areas upon completion.
  • Supports after-hours, weekend, holiday, on-call, and emergency response operations as required to meet mission and contract requirements.
  • Follows company policies, procedures, safety requirements, EPA regulations, OSHA requirements, and applicable government standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

What We're Looking For

  • EPA Section 608 certification (Universal preferred; Type II/III acceptable) required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; formal HVAC, refrigeration, or technical training preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of HVAC experience, including demonstrated experience operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing commercial or industrial chillers.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, refrigeration cycles, chilled-water systems, cooling towers, pumps, electrical components, and mechanical systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair complex HVAC, refrigeration, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Working knowledge of BAS/DDC controls, sensors, actuators, VFDs, and related HVAC control systems preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, technical manuals, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Knowledge of applicable safety requirements, occupational hazards, OSHA standards, and safe work practices.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license and a safe driving record, in accordance with company policy, to operate vehicles or equipment as required for the position.

 

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and perform physical activities including pushing, pulling, carrying, stooping, bending, squatting, kneeling, climbing, and reaching for extended periods.
  • Must be able to work on-call, alternate, and extended shift schedules as necessary to meet mission requirements, including weekends and holidays.
  • Work may be performed indoors or outdoors in varying weather conditions and environments.
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces, at heights, and around various occupational hazards while using required personal protective equipment (PPE).

US Pay Range

$29.26 - $29.26 USD
