About the Role

Are you ready to join a collaborative team of HRBP leaders who are redefining what it means to drive people success? As our Staff, HRBP at Thumbtack supporting our Commercial Team (Sales, Success, Customer Service, Business Development, Partnerships and Commercial Operations) you’ll be stepping into a role that’s pivotal in guiding and executing on our people strategy within a global context.

This is a full-time role providing dedicated support to the leadership of the Commercial team, including VPs, Directors, and Managers. As part of this role, you’ll temporarily manage a team of two HRBPs in the Philippines for 12 months during a maternity leave.

Our broader HRBP team, which you’ll be a key part of, includes talented individuals across the US, Canada, and the Philippines, all working together to shape our company’s culture and Future of Work vision. Reporting to our Director, People Business Partner - Commercial, you’ll provide strategic HR leadership and ensure our people strategy comes to life within your area of focus. Responsibilities

  • Business & Strategic Leadership: Serve as a strategic partner to senior leadership, particularly the Commercial leadership team. You’ll bring your knowledge of functions like Sales, Success, Customer Service, Business Development and other operational and frontline teams to the table, advising at the intersection of business and talent strategy and influencing key decisions related to team health, performance, organizational design and workforce planning.
  • Employee Relations Expertise: Handle a large number of employee issues across different countries, including US/CAN, and the Philippines. Balance legal regulations with addressing tough situations, while finding solutions that benefit both employees and the company.
  • Change Management: Change is constant, and you’ll be the one helping your team navigate it smoothly. You'll lead and support other HRBPs in managing complex organizational changes, navigating ambiguity, and driving clarity and alignment by providing practical solutions in dynamic environments.
  • Team Leadership and Development: You’ll be a part of a team of business-oriented HRBPs who are committed to making a real impact. Your leadership style should foster a culture of ownership, where everyone feels empowered to take charge of their work. You’ll encourage open, honest feedback—because that’s how we grow—and you won’t shy away from pushing the team to reach new heights.
  • Operational Excellence: You’ll oversee the execution of HR programs that are tailored to Thumbtack’s unique needs, ensuring our HR programs are not just implemented, but executed with excellence.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Data is your friend. You’ll guide your team in turning numbers into insights, and those insights into actions that make a difference. Focusing on scalability and impact, you’ll make sure we’re always refining and optimizing our strategies.
  • Culture and Employee Advocacy: You’ll be a champion for Thumbtack’s culture, ensuring our values aren't just talked about, but lived every day. Lead by example and make sure your team does the same with their client groups.
  • Collaborate Across People Team: You’ll work hand-in-hand with others on the People Team to create and execute strategies that make Thumbtack a place where people want to work. You’ll partner with teams like Recruiting, DEI, OD, and Total Rewards, to develop and implement integrated People strategies that support Thumbtack’s business objectives with a people-first approach.

What you’ll need

  • 7+ years of progressive global HR experience, including leadership roles managing HR professionals ideal. 
  • Experience supporting both strategic and frontline teams (e.g. Sales, Success, Customer Service, Business Development, Commercial Ops) in fast-paced, dynamic environments.
  • Deep expertise in performance management, employee relations, organizational development, and change management.
  • Strong influencing skills and executive presence, with a track record of driving change, communicating effectively, and navigating complex org dynamics.
  • Known for building trust at all levels, facilitating tough conversations, and fostering inclusive, values-aligned workplaces through a data-informed approach..

Bonus points if you have

  • Experience in both private and public companies.
  • Experience supporting teams within a global organization.
  • A background in scaling organizations in fast-paced, dynamic environments, especially within virtual or hybrid work models.

For candidates living in San Francisco / Bay Area, San Jose, New York City, or Seattle metros, the expected salary range for the role is currently $204,100 - $249,500.

For candidates living in Austin, TX or Washington DC metros or in California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, or Washington states, the expected salary range for the role is currently $183,700 - $224,500. 

For candidates living in all other US locations, the expected salary range for this role is currently $173,500 - $212,100. Actual offered salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as calibrated job level, qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role.
