Automotive Technician Instructor

Location: Tidewater Tech | 4535 E Princess Anne Rd, Norfolk, VA 23502
Compensation: Up to $35/hour + $2,500 Sign-On Bonus
Schedule: Monday–Thursday | Friday, Saturday & Sunday Off!
Shift Options: 4:00 PM–10:30 PM or 12:00 PM–10:30 PM

Are you an experienced Automotive Technician, Automotive Mechanic, or ASE-Certified Technician ready for a new career opportunity? At Tidewater Tech, you can put your industry knowledge to work preparing the next generation of skilled automotive professionals.

We're seeking automotive professionals to join our team as Automotive Technician Instructors in Norfolk, Virginia. In this hands-on role, you'll share your real-world experience in automotive maintenance, diagnostics, and repair while helping students develop the skills needed to succeed in the automotive industry.

No teaching experience required! We provide a 5-day paid instructor training program to help experienced technicians successfully transition from the shop to the classroom.

What You'll Do

  • Deliver hands-on automotive technology instruction in classroom and lab environments.
  • Teach automotive maintenance, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair using industry-standard tools and equipment.
  • Demonstrate proper service procedures, shop safety practices, and diagnostic techniques.
  • Mentor students as they develop technical skills and prepare for automotive careers.
  • Evaluate student performance, monitor attendance, and maintain accurate instructional records.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and professional learning environment.
  • Collaborate with program leadership to support curriculum delivery, equipment readiness, and student success.
  • Participate in technical training and professional development.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on automotive maintenance, service, diagnostics, or repair experience.
  • Strong knowledge of automotive systems, troubleshooting, repair procedures, and shop safety.
  • Ability to explain technical concepts clearly and communicate effectively with students.
  • Basic computer skills and willingness to learn instructional technology.
  • Commitment to completing at least 20 hours of annual technical update training.

Preferred Qualifications

  • ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) Certification relevant to the subjects taught.
  • Experience with automotive electrical systems, engine performance, brakes, steering and suspension, or related specialties.
  • Previous training, mentoring, or supervisory experience in an automotive shop or service environment.
