Expert Meteorologist

Remote US

Tomorrow.io’s Customer Team makes it possible for weather-sensitive industries like technology and on on-demand, construction, aviation, energy, outdoor entertainment, autonomous cars, drones, and other forward-thinking businesses, to operate faster than the speed of weather.

Tomorrow.io is looking for an experienced operational meteorologist to help customers make better decisions in weather-sensitive environments. You will combine strong forecasting judgment with clear communication, effective use of Tomorrow.io’s technology, and a practical approach to AI and automation.

You will support customers across industries and climate zones, especially when conditions change quickly and the consequences of a forecast matter. You will also improve how the work gets done: identifying repetitive tasks, testing new tools, and turning effective practices into workflows the team can use consistently. You will remain accountable for the quality of the meteorological guidance you deliver.

What you’ll do

  • Monitor evolving conditions and produce timely forecasts and risk assessments using observations, numerical weather prediction, satellite products, radar, and synoptic analysis.
  • Interpret model differences and forecast uncertainty, with particular attention to high-impact weather and the decisions customers need to make.
  • Explain weather impacts through written reports, briefings, and direct consultation, tailoring guidance to each customer’s operations.
  • Use Tomorrow.io’s platform and available AI tools to accelerate analysis, prepare first drafts, organize information, and improve the timeliness and consistency of customer updates.
  • Check AI-generated and automated output against meteorological evidence. Correct errors, communicate uncertainty, and apply expert judgment before consequential guidance is delivered.
  • Review forecast performance and significant misses. Share findings with the meteorology, Science, Product, and Engineering teams to improve models, tools, and operational practices.
  • Identify recurring forecast and communication tasks that can be automated or standardized. Help design, test, document, and adopt improved workflows across shifts.
  • Help customers incorporate Tomorrow.io’s products into daily operations by translating weather insights into practical workflows and identifying barriers to adoption.
  • Contribute to forecasting guidance, handoffs, and shared practices that support consistent quality across the team.

What you bring

  • At least 5 years of experience as an operational meteorologist.
  • Strong forecasting judgment and experience integrating observations, NWP guidance, satellite products, and radar with traditional meteorological analysis.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience explaining technical weather information to nontechnical audiences.
  • Hands-on experience using AI tools to improve professional workflows, with the ability to evaluate their output critically.
  • A demonstrated ability to adopt new technology, improve processes, and share effective practices with colleagues.
  • Experience assessing forecast uncertainty and reviewing forecast performance to improve future guidance.
  • The ability to manage multiple forecast responsibilities, prioritize effectively, and maintain accuracy under pressure.
  • Knowledge of weather patterns across the continental United States and an ability to forecast across varied global climate zones.
  • Strong radar interpretation skills, including dual-polarization products.
  • Availability to work a variety of shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Additional experience we value

  • Forecasting for outdoor or sporting events, transportation, aviation, or logistics.
  • Writing TAFs or other operational aviation weather products.
  • Creating templates, automations, or repeatable tools that improve forecasting or customer communication.
  • Working with product, science, or engineering teams on model verification or forecasting tools.

If you have reached this point and you are super excited but not sure you check all the boxes - we still want to speak with you! Your passion is priceless. Other things can be learned.
