The immunology portfolio includes biologics to address organ transplant rejection, autoimmunity, and cancer. The infectious disease pipeline includes a vaccine in development to prevent smallpox and monkeypox, which also serves as a live virus vaccine platform for other infectious diseases. Finally, the rare disease portfolio includes a product in development for Prader-Willi syndrome, which has both orphan drug designation and rare pediatric disease designation grants from the FDA.

Position Overview
Tonix Pharmaceuticals is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist in mass spectrometry. Knowledge and experience in the broad field of omics, especially proteomics and glycomics, as well as MALDI-MSI is a requirement. The position is located at the Tonix Research and Development Center (RDC), which is the innovation and development arm of Tonix Pharmaceuticals with unique capabilities in biotechnology. RDC houses complete laboratories dedicated to molecular biology, protein design and computational analysis, protein expression and characterization, immunology, virology, and pathology. The individual in this position will participate in many aspects of therapeutic and biologics development, discovery, production, characterization, and optimization. We are searching for a motivated, resourceful, and adaptive scientists with an industry mindset and wide spectrum of expertise in MS to join the RDC discovery and development team. The most exciting aspect of this facility is the cadre of scientists with decades of experience in a wide range of specializations that have created a lively, interactive, and exciting scientific facility to provide solutions to some of the most intractable problems in life sciences. This is a fast-paced challenging position offering a competitive compensation and benefits package. This position will report to the Director of Protein Sciences and will be based at the Tonix Research, and Development Center in Frederick, Maryland.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute Mass Spectrometry-based research projects in a timely and high-quality manner.
- Aid in expansion of current MS capabilities, including staffing requirements.
- Contribute to the development and optimization of omics (peptide mapping, post-translational modifications, glycan profiling, quantitative analysis) and imaging (sub-cellular, deep content) aspects of multiple projects.
- Coordinate facility workload with protein sciences, immunology, and pathology teams.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional project teams, proposing innovative discoveries and optimization strategies within Tonix’s pipeline.
- Uphold company mission and values, emphasizing accountability, innovation, integrity, quality, and teamwork.
- Perform ad-hoc work/special projects as necessary to support Tonix on various business initiatives.
- Provide complete and correlated records of all MS work across the entire drug developments for internal teams and regulatory agencies.
Necessary Skills and Abilities
- Strong accomplishment record demonstrating the ability to perform independent, high-quality, creative, and impactful research in the fields of Mass Spectrometry-based omics
- Hands-on expertise with Mass Spectrometry-based omics workflows including sample preparation, instrument operation and data processing
- Proven track record operating Mass Spectrometry systems with extensive expertise in HPLC separation techniques
- Ability for minimal travel
- Dedicated team player who can withstand the high demands of a fast-paced environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential
- Strong planning and organizational skills
- Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision
- Highly organized, results-driven, problem solver, and collaborator
- Demonstrated ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation
Educational and Experience Requirements
- Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry, Glycobiology, Analytical Sciences or related discipline with minimum of 3 years of full-time professional experience, or Master’s degree with minimum 5 years of experience.
Salary Range
$100,000 - $170,000 USD
