Head of Business Operations

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

At Too Good To Go, we have an ambitious mission: to inspire and empower everyone to fight food waste together.

More than 1/3 of all food produced in the world is wasted. And that has a huge impact on the health of our planet. 10% of greenhouse gas emissions come from food waste and loss.

Through our marketplace app, we connect businesses that have unsold, surplus food, with consumers who can buy and enjoy it at ⅓ of retail value. We are a certified B Corporation with a mission to empower everyone to take action against food waste. Alongside our marketplace app, we create educational tools, explore new business solutions, and influence legislation to help reduce food waste.

We’re growing fast: Our community of 120 million registered users and 185,000 active partners across 19 countries, have together already saved over 400 million meals from going to waste!

In 2023, Too Good To Go was recognised on Fortune's acclaimed 'Change the World' list, named as one of Deloitte's 'Best Managed Companies' and won a coveted 'Cultural Impact Award' at the annual Apple App Store Awards.

Building on our Australia launch in 2024, we’re looking for an exceptional Head of Business Operations to manage marketplace health across Australia, down to the hyperlocal level.

As Head of Business Operations, you will surface areas for improvement and work cross-functionally to develop and execute tactics and processes to drive performance. While you will report directly to the Country Director, you will work closely with the Associate Director of Strategy & Operations and other Heads of Operations across the globe.

The role:

Local Marketplace Performance: Monitor marketplace health at the national and city level; surface opportunities to improve the balance of supply and demand, and collaborate with relevant departments to drive the right actions (e.g., increasing supply availability and/or quality, increasing user volumes and/or purchase frequency) in the right geographies

Cross-Functional Projects: Manage high-priority cross-functional projects with strategic implications for the business; take accountability for project outcomes, ensure delivery on critical project metrics, and keep stakeholders informed of progress

Local Strategy: Develop, communicate, and operationalise strategies that help Too Good To Go achieve its goals at the country and/or regional level. You will play an active role in regional expansion plans.

Data-Driven Decision Making: Synthesise quantitative and qualitative insights into concise, actionable recommendations that can be digested by leaders across the business; ensure analytical and operational rigour in our reporting and processes

Knowledge Sharing: Support knowledge and best practice sharing and implementation among local and global stakeholders; drive adoption of team knowledge base to ensure key processes are documented and shared across the organisation

Business Planning: Support the development of operating forecasts and long-term business plans by partnering cross-functionally to model performance, identify key drivers, and inform strategic decision-making

We’re looking for:

  • Significant work experience with demonstrated success in high-performance cultures (whether in consulting, investment banking, or strategy or operations at a high-growth marketplace/technology company)
  • Proven track record of successfully leading complex projects, owning revenue or growth goals, and working cross-functionally in a fast-moving environment
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Ownership mindset and proactive attitude to find and implement solutions for complex issues
  • Ability to build deep, trust-based relationships and collaborate with local and global stakeholders across departments
  • Inspiring, engaging, and motivating communicator – in person and online
  • Strong data retrieval, analytics, data visualisation, and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated project management skills and ability to keep initiatives on track
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Proficient with Excel/Google Sheets and PowerPoint/Google Slides
  • Experience with Salesforce (reports, dashboards), Business Intelligence tools (e.g., Looker), and SQL are a strong plus
  • You are based in (or willing to relocate to) Melbourne

Our values:

  • We Win Together
  • We Raise the Bar
  • We Keep It Simple
  • We Build A Legacy
  • We Care

We offer you:

  • A rare opportunity to work in a social impact company (and certified B Corporation!) where you can see real and tangible impact in your role.
  • The unique opportunity to join the pioneering team leading the expansion of a proven food surplus marketplace into Australia
  • Working alongside an international community of users, partners and 1,200+ colleagues across 19 countries that are on the same important mission.
  • Personal and professional development opportunities in a fast-paced scale-up environment.
  • An inclusive company culture where you can bring your authentic self to work
  • Most of your time will be spent in the office with the team or out in the field talking to prospective partners but we do offer flexibility to work from home as well.
  • A strong, values-driven team culture where we celebrate successes and socialise with colleagues

Benefits:

  • 20 days of annual leave plus additional 5 days p.a. after 6 months of employment
  • 10 weeks parental leave at full pay, available to all natural and adoptive parents after 6 months
  • Shareback Volunteering Days: Up to 4 paid volunteering days to help tackle food insecurity

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
