What is this role like?

We’re looking for a driven, strategic, and execution-focused problem solver to join our growing team in Boston or Barcelona, Spain. As an Associate General Counsel, you’ll be the key to unlocking Topsort’s next stage of growth, building a strong and flexible legal foundation, and supporting complex negotiations with top retailers, marketplaces, and delivery apps across the U.S. and Canada.

• Team Collaboration: Foster a “sports team” mentality by working closely with product, engineering, and sales teams across regions to enhance sales strategies, share insights, and drive deal success.
• Industry Expertise: Develop deep expertise in the AdTech industry, Topsort’s product offerings, and the retail media landscape while staying ahead of evolving E-commerce regulations.
• Client & API Negotiations: Lead commercial negotiations and API agreements with strategic judgment and a strong results-oriented approach.
• Global Legal Operations: Manage cross-border contracts, export controls, tax compliance, and regulatory adherence to support international business operations.
• Risk Assessment & Mitigation: Partner with leadership to identify, evaluate, and mitigate risks across internal processes and external partnerships.
• Compliance & Contracting Strategy: Work with operations, commercial, and finance teams to refine best practices for compliance and contracting, ensuring seamless execution.

What (we think) you need to be successful - we’re open to not checking all the boxes and be proven wrong by outlier candidates as well! 

• Education & Licensing: For U.S. candidates, a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and an active license to practice law in the U.S. are required. For Spain candidates, a qualifying law degree and an active license to practice law in Spain are required.
• Legal Expertise: Strong skills in legal writing and commercial negotiation; expertise in MA or CA employment law is a plus.
• Startup Mindset: Ability to work hard, move fast, and adapt to a dynamic environment.
• Problem-Solver: A self-starter who finds the right answers before asking questions.
• Industry Curiosity: Eager to self-educate and become an expert in auction engines, retail media, and marketplace monetization.
