Senior Product Manager - Platform
Summary
Are you a systems thinker and product strategist who wants to build the platform traders rely on every day?
Topstep is looking for a Senior Product Manager to own and evolve core areas of TopstepX, our proprietary futures trading platform. TopstepX is where our traders spend their day: it is how they see the market, place and manage orders, monitor risk, and track their performance. The platform serves traders across our funding programs and our brokerage offering, so the work you do here shapes the experience of every trader who uses our products. In this role, you’ll partner closely with engineering, design, trading operations, risk, and support to define product direction, deliver dependable and intuitive solutions, and continuously improve outcomes for traders and the business. You will be responsible for product areas where speed, reliability, and clarity matter in real time, and where the quality of the experience directly affects how traders perform.
This role is ideal for someone who combines deep product judgment with strong execution instincts, understands how traders think and work, and who’s ready to take on a highly visible part of the platform. You’ll help turn platform strategy into shipped, measurable outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and execute product strategy for core areas of the TopstepX platform, aligning trader needs, business goals, and technical constraints.
- Lead complex platform initiatives from discovery through delivery, partnering with engineering, design, and cross-functional teams to ship reliable, well-instrumented features.
- Deeply understand the trader journey, from market data and charting through order entry, position management, and performance review, and use that understanding to prioritize what matters most.
- Break down ambiguous, technically complex problems using trader insight, platform data, and market context to make clear product decisions and trade-offs.
- Work with engineering to balance new capability against platform stability, performance, and resilience, treating reliability as a product feature.
- Collaborate with risk, compliance, trading operations, and support to ensure platform behavior is accurate, transparent, and consistent with program rules and regulatory expectations.
- Drive the roadmap and product development process with a bias toward learning, iteration, and measurable results, defining success metrics and instrumenting features to track them.
- Write clear requirements, acceptance criteria, and release communication so engineering, QA, and trader-facing teams share a single understanding of what is shipping and why.
- Contribute to strong product practices by sharing insights, learnings, and best practices with the broader product team.
- Represent the platform and its traders in stakeholder discussions with a strong user-centric perspective.
Required Qualifications and Key Competencies
- 5 to 7+ years of experience in product management, with experience owning and delivering technical products end-to-end.
- Experience building products for trading, brokerage, fintech, or other real-time, data-intensive domains, and genuine curiosity about how markets and traders work.
- Working knowledge of futures markets and trading mechanics, or the ability to build it quickly: order types, contract specifications, market data, position and P&L concepts, and how traders manage risk.
- Strong strategic thinking with the ability to balance big-picture platform goals and detailed execution.
- Proven success leading complex, cross-functional efforts with significant technical and user complexity, including work with engineering on performance, reliability, or architecture-driven initiatives.
- Fluency in customer discovery, product validation, and data-informed decision-making, including defining and tracking product metrics.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills across teams and levels of seniority, including the ability to translate between traders, engineers, and business leaders.
- Comfort working in a dynamic, fast-moving environment where market conditions and priorities can shift quickly.
- A strong sense of ownership and collaboration, with the ability to influence without authority.
Nice to Have:
- Experience working in compliance-regulated environments, including brokerage or proprietary trading firms.
- Familiarity with platform ecosystems: APIs, third-party integrations, or partner-facing products.
- Background with products involving real-time systems, low-latency execution, market data feeds, or high-throughput messaging.
- Personal or professional experience trading futures, or hands-on experience with professional trading platforms.
- Experience with teams during high-growth phases or organizational change.
