Meet the Team
Join the Autonomous Driving Kit (AD-Kit) Systems Team, where we provide systems engineering expertise to support component development, integration, cybersecurity, and functional safety leadership for autonomous trucking technology. This role is crucial in driving safety assurance for Torc’s autonomous solutions, ensuring that all systems meet industry safety standards and regulations. We are looking for a Functional Safety Systems Engineer who thrives in a hands-on, cross-functional environment and is passionate about developing and implementing safety cases for autonomous trucks.
What You’ll Do

Support the development of AD-Kit components, including embedded compute, LiDAR, radar, cameras, IMU, power distribution, and more.

Lead functional safety design discussions spanning hardware, software, validation, and operations.

Derive safety requirements and ensure system architectures and designs align with safety standards.

Conduct Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessments (HARA) to define safety goals.

Perform safety analyses including Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Dependent Failure Analysis (DFA).

Collaborate with Sensors and Base Hardware teams to drive safety analysis and deliverables with Tier-1 suppliers.

Maintain requirements databases using DOORS and Jama, ensuring accuracy and traceability.

Develop verification and validation strategies against safety requirements in collaboration with engineering teams.
What You’ll Need to Succeed

Bachelor’s degree in Systems, Electrical, Software, or Computer Engineering, Robotics, or a related field with 4+ years of experience OR a Master’s degree with 1-3 years of experience.

Experience in an automotive-related field.

Strong understanding of ISO 26262 (Functional Safety) and ISO 21448 (SOTIF).

Broad knowledge of engineering fundamentals, including software, networking, electrical, and mechanical systems.

Familiarity with functional safety analysis processes such as HAZOP, FMEA, STPA, and FTA.

Ability to apply functional safety concepts in innovative ways to L4 autonomous applications.

Excellent technical documentation and verbal communication skills.

Willingness and ability to work cross-functionally across teams, geographies, and time zones.

Hands-on software/hardware engineering experience.

Expertise with LiDAR, radar, cameras, and other sensor modalities.

Experience with Jira and functional safety planning tools.

Background in Autonomous Vehicles or ADAS safety concepts.
