Duties: Responsible for various software development and engineering activities supporting the delivery of autonomy algorithm software to the overall system solution within our autonomy software algorithms components. Perform software development activities such as software architecture, design, coding, unit testing, integration, deployment, and maintenance within their assigned autonomy algorithms software component. Develop, implement and test autonomy algorithms with the areas of active sensing and information fusion. Develop perception algorithms to detect and perceive objects for Torc’s autonomous driving systems, allowing the system to understand and react to the environment around the vehicle in real-time. Create software to utilize algorithms that use sensor data from LiDAR, RADAR, and cameras to detect, classify, segment, and detect, segment, classify, and track obstacles in the vehicle's surrounding environment. Create situational awareness for our behaviors and path planning teams to make vehicle decisions to navigate safety.
Requirements: Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related autonomy software engineering technical field with 2 years’ post-baccalaureate experience as a Software Engineer 2, Autonomy or closely related position with autonomy automotive development experience, or alternatively Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related autonomy software engineering technical field with 5 years’ experience as a Software Engineer 2, Autonomy or closely related position with autonomy automotive development experience. Experience must include: 1) C++ & python software development in Linux environment; 2) modeling and simulation of traffic systems, vehicle dynamics, and control systems; 3) virtual verification & validation of automated driving systems; 4) integrate traffic modeling with vehicle dynamics and sensor and 3D environment models.
Position located in Blacksburg, VA but eligible to work from anywhere in the U.S. Up to 20% domestic (and international) travel possible.
