Manager, Engineering - Platform Enablement
About the Company
At Torc, we have always believed that autonomous vehicle technology will transform how we travel, move freight, and do business.
A leader in autonomous driving since 2007, Torc has spent over a decade commercializing our solutions with experienced partners. Now a part of the Daimler family, we are focused solely on developing software for automated trucks to transform how the world moves freight.
Join us and catapult your career with the company that helped pioneer autonomous technology, and the first AV software company with the vision to partner directly with a truck manufacturer.
Meet the Team:
The Platform Enablement team builds the foundational hardware/software infrastructure that enables integration and validation of the autonomy software stack in Torc’s automated trucks. This includes the design and maintenance of Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) test benches, integration tooling, and scalable deployment infrastructure that supports fast, reliable testing across vehicles and simulation environments.
This is a highly cross-functional team that interfaces closely with Platform, Integration, Release, Simulation, and Validation Engineering to ensure that every component—from perception to planning—is testable, measurable, and deployable at scale.
What You’ll Do:
We are seeking a hands-on Engineering Manager who will lead a team of software and systems engineers focused on building robust and scalable HiL platforms, integration tools, and infrastructure. This role blends technical leadership, cross-functional coordination, and people management.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead and grow a high-performing team responsible for developing the tooling and infrastructure that supports HiL and system integration workflows.
- Set technical direction and priorities in collaboration with partner teams across the autonomy stack.
- Oversee the design and implementation of systems that control and interface with HiL test platforms, embedded devices, and networked components.
- Guide roadmap planning, staffing, and architectural decisions to ensure the team scales effectively alongside Torc’s autonomy development needs.
- Support your team’s growth through coaching, mentoring, and career development.
- Drive a culture of engineering rigor, reliability, and continuous improvement in test and deployment infrastructure.
What You’ll Need to Succeed:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or related field.
- 7+ years of experience in software or systems engineering, with 3+ years leading technical teams.
- Strong background in embedded systems, test infrastructure, or platform-level integration.
- Familiarity with systems involving hardware-in-the-loop, real-time networking, or simulation/test control software.
- Proven track record of delivering infrastructure to support continuous integration, validation, or deployment in complex technical environments.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills; comfortable working across software, hardware, and test domains.
Bonus Points:
- Experience with tools and frameworks like ROS/ROS2, Bazel, Docker, or CI/CD pipelines.
- Familiarity with automotive protocols (CAN, PCIe, LIN, etc.).
- Prior exposure to safety-critical domains such as robotics, aerospace, or autonomy.
- Experience working in Agile environments and fast-paced product organizations.
