Principal, Systems Engineer - Technology Stategy & Execution

What You’ll Do
The Principal Engineer for the Technology Strategy & Execution team will be the single point of contact to coordinate and track the evidence towards a systematic meeting of all Torc Safety Case claims sufficiency criteria. This role will work with cross-functional teams on authoring goals and claims, generating evidence, tracking artifact progression, designing metrics, and program and product functions to ensure on-time delivery of safety cases.
- Provide guidance, direction, and definition for the release case management function, including planning, scheduling, coordination, and implementation across multiple divisions and functions.
- Support and maintain a best-in-class, state-of-the-art release framework.
- Track targets for product safety, reliability, availability, robustness, security, traceability, defensibility, and quality.
- Drive execution toward these targets through validation and release strategies.
- Evaluate the technical quality of system, safety, and security artifacts.
What You’ll Need to Succeed
- Demonstrated expertise in a highly specialized technical domain, influencing best practices and conducting complex, high-impact work independently.
- Proven ability to drive alignment across divisional and organizational interfaces, shaping and delivering technical solutions that meet business and operational expectations.
- Active mentorship and guidance of engineers across the organization, contributing to the Principal Community that defines the company’s technical direction.
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, with corresponding experience:
- Bachelor’s + 20+ years of relevant experience
- Master’s + 10+ years of relevant experience
- Doctorate + 7+ years of relevant experience
- Deep knowledge and application of safety and security standards such as ISO 26262, 21448, 21434, and UL 4600.
- Proficiency in safety analysis methods including STPA, FMEA, FTA, DRBFM, and 3x5 Why.
- Strong background in software development or systems engineering, including operating systems, programming languages, networking, databases, virtual environments, and system integration.
- Exceptional facilitation, technical coaching, and systems thinking capabilities.
- Collaborative experience with product and quality managers, with a clear understanding of business priorities.
- Excellent communication skills—verbal, written, and interpersonal—to build trust and convey complex ideas effectively.
- High attention to detail and critical thinking to identify and resolve protocol deviations and inefficiencies.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to handle competing demands in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information ethically and professionally.
- Experience in:
- Autonomous operations risk assessment and mitigation
- System-of-systems failure mode analysis for fail-operational systems
- Machine learning delivery and data-driven validation at scale
- Continuous systems deliver
Bonus Points!
- Experience with automation via scripting or data mining
- Familiarity with AV and ADAS applications
- Background in production and series automotive safety-critical products
