Meet the Team: 

When you join the Fleet Training & Compliance team you will be part of an elite group of individuals with former commercial vehicle experience, corporate training skills, safety operational experience, and regulatory compliance knowledge.
Fleet Training provides program management for Fleet Operations IFTD (In-Vehicle Fallback Test Driver) and SC Certified Personnel programs, as well as fleet-specific training for direct and contract fleet employees.  Our motto is "Fundamentum Disciplina Esta"(Training is the foundation); ensuring that the crews have the knowledge to safety operate the autonomous vehicles in their testing efforts.
The Fleet Compliance Team’s primary function is to support Torc’s safety program through ongoing management of Federal and State regulations as they pertain to commercial motor carriers. We also serve as subject matter experts for all DOT/CSA related issues and questions. Our motto is “WE A.R.E.” (Audit Ready Everyday).

What you'll do: 

  • Support implementation, maintenance, and delivery of comprehensive IFTD training programs. To include integration with testing training programs, orientations, skill training, incident response training, and emergency preparedness training. Provides feedback to the operations manager, IFTD program manager, and safety teams to improve programs
  • Assist with implementation and oversight of IFTD monitoring & auditing including the use of Lytx in-cab event recorders and real time monitoring as well as in-person auditing of driving behaviors and practices.
  • Conduct IFTD quarterly and annual requalification and annual reviews of IFTD Training Program. Maintain currency records to understand the eligibility of crew and scheduling of requalification.
  • Provide individual coaching as needed to IFTDs based on feedback from Safety, Fleet Operations and personal observations. Reviews accident/incident summaries to incorporate into communications and training to maximize the IFTD coaching program.
  • Contributes to workplace safety and follows OSHA and other state, local, or industry specific regulations. Delivers reporting on progress and opportunities for improvement to Program Manager.
  • Ensure training, communications, policies, and procedures are received and documented demonstrating timely communications.
  • Use Smith System principles in training modules for IFTDs.
  • Maintain IFTD qualification requirements
  • Driving and ensuring safe operation of autonomous Class 8 trucks
  • Serve as a fully qualified IFTD for 1-2 shifts a week in Fleet Operation shifts running software release testing activities. Use this in-cab experience to influence future training modules, modify existing training, and/or develop individual coaching.
  • Provide feedback to the system engineering team on vehicle dynamics and performance.
  • Execute federal and program process requirements
  • Manage the Dynamic Driving Task of an Autonomous Driving System
  • Manually drives program vehicles in accordance with program expectations.
  • Navigating inter and intrastate regulations, maintaining ELDs and records
  • Assist in closed course Torc Program Initiatives testing serving as qualified IFTD.
  • Participates in seminars, continuing education, etc., to update knowledge within professional scope 
  • Stays abreast of industry trends and regulations, maintains qualifications, and seeks continuous avenues for growth and improvement.
  • Participate in annual Train-the-Trainer requalification's with IFTD Program Manager to maintain Trainer eligibility.
  • Maintain IFTD training records for each IFTD in a central repository.
  • Maintain training program processes and policies in the Torc document management system.

What you’ll need to Succeed: 

  • Bachelor's degree in education, Engineering, Business Management, Transportation, Safety or related degree.
  • Preferred 1- 3 years of experience providing safety training and initiatives and developing and delivering training programs.
  • Class A CDL with 5 years of experience with Class 8 tractor-trailer driving on public roads and operating in a wide array of weather conditions.
  • CDL Training / Testing experience and ability to meet the IFTD Qualification required.
  • + 3 points on MVR
  • 5+ years providing safety training and safety initiatives. 
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local government Health & Safety regulations (OSHA, ANSI, DOT, FMCSA, NHTSA, etc.). DOT regulations experience working with commercial trucking required. 
  • Must be able to multitask multiple technologies, including communications devices and vehicle status systems. 
  • Able to work early morning shifts, evenings, and/or weekends, as well as overnight shifts. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety with the ability to identify and act upon safety improvement opportunities.  
  • Excellent skills in operating Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and utilizing audio/visual equipment for optimal delivery and facilitation of initiatives. 
  • Experience that demonstrates professional communication skills with the ability to develop correspondence and reports, create and deliver presentations, and interact effectively with diverse clientele. 
  • Highly motivated, energetic, self-directed individual with good analytical and problem-solving skills including root cause and risk analysis methodologies 
  • Leadership and teamwork skills to work collaboratively and influence those with limited safety and health experience 
  • Understanding Safety & Health principles and the ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to a varied audience.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several geographic markets. Pay is based on a number of factors and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Torc's total compensation package will also include our corporate bonus and stock option plan.
