HiL V&V Manager

Remote - US

What you will do:

As the HiL Test Manager, you will lead a team of HiL test engineers responsible for the hardware-in-the-loop verification and validation (V&V) of Torc’s autonomous truck. You will own the HiL test strategy and set the technical direction for the team, ensuring that HiL test evidence supports Torc’s safety case and aligns with ISO 26262 (functional safety) and ISO 21448 (SOTIF). You will also partner with development, integration, systems, and safety teams and be instrumental in growing the robustness and safety of our self-driving technology.

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of HiL test engineers, setting clear goals, priorities, and development plans.
  • Define and own the HiL test strategy, roadmap, and technical direction in support of Torc’s autonomous truck safety case.
  • Ensure HiL test methods, processes, and evidence align with ISO 26262 and ISO 21448 (SOTIF), including verification of safety mechanisms and fault handling, and testing of triggering conditions and performance limitations.
  • Partner with Product, Systems, and Safety teams to translate functional and safety requirements into HiL test specifications.
  • Plan and oversee HiL test campaigns, including resourcing, scheduling, bench allocation, and delivery against program milestones.
  • Guide the design of in-house HiL benches to achieve the HiL test strategy.
  • Ensure test cases, procedures, and results are documented with traceability to requirements; identify testing gaps and manage relationships with internal tools teams and external HiL vendors.
  • Review HiL results, drive defect triage, and communicate V&V status, risks, and findings to engineering leadership and stakeholders through dashboards and test reports.

What you’ll need to succeed:

A Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field with 6+ years of experience, or a Master's degree with 4+ years of experience.

  • Significant experience (typically 6+ years) driving HiL V&V on complex engineering systems, including defining test plans, executing campaigns, and reporting results.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 26262 and ISO 21448 (SOTIF), and how they apply to HiL-based verification and validation.
  • Experience defining HiL test strategy and overseeing the development of test cases with traceability to functional and safety requirements.
  • Understanding of Autonomous Driving technologies, including sensors (LiDAR, radar, cameras), perception, sensor fusion, and vehicle dynamics.
  • Working knowledge of ROS/ROS2 (topics, services, actions) system monitoring and diagnostics.
  • Knowledge of CAN bus protocols and tools such as Vector CANoe and CANalyzer.
  • Proficiency in Python, CAPL and/or C++ and Git, with the ability to guide the development of HiL test scripts and automation frameworks.
  • Experience with system-level troubleshooting, fault isolation, and root-cause analysis across integrated hardware and software.
  • Experience managing cross-functional partners and external vendors, and effectively communicating progress and test results to leadership and stakeholders.

Bonus Points!
Experience contributing to safety cases or safety assurance arguments, including HiL tool and bench qualification (e.g., ISO 26262 tool confidence).

  • Experience with fault injection testing and verification of safety mechanisms on embedded and ECU-level systems.
  • ADAS or autonomous vehicle verification and validation experience.
  • Experience correlating HiL results with simulation and track or road testing.
  • Experience hiring, building, and scaling engineering teams.
