About the Role
As the Lead Programmer for the Online team, you will be responsible for managing a multidisciplinary group of 8 developers. The ideal candidate has a passion for setting up their team for success, building up individuals both professionally and personally, and uniting their team toward a common goal.
Responsibilities
- Manage a team of programmers, including their tasks, performance, and career development.
- Lead the organization, planning, and development of the online team.
- Collaborate with designers, directors, and other departments to achieve the vision of the game.
- Help set and enforce guidelines to keep a maintainable code base that will be used across multiple projects.
- Oversee programming processes and support in maintaining sustainable workflows.
- Assist with recruitment, on-boarding, development, and professional training of the online team.
- Maintain regular internal communications and encourage a positive and ambitious team atmosphere.
- Demonstrate good leadership, enthusiasm, motivation, and sense of commitment to your team.
Requirements
- 8 years of relevant professional experience working in AAA video games.
- 5 years of professional experience in a lead position managing multiple team members.
- Experience building and levelling up a team of developers; including regular check-ins, performance reviews, professional development, conflict resolution, etc.
- Experience launching AAA titles on multiple platforms.
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
- A strong motivation to manage and oversee a multidisciplinary team of developers (backend, client, dev ops, etc.).
- An understanding and passion for video games.
- Willingness to work in the province of Ontario is preferred, but remote opportunities are available.
Bonuses
- Experience working on online services integrations for AAA games.
- Working experience with Unreal Engine 4 or 5.
- Have, a B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or an equivalent degree.
- Working experience with latest Xbox and Playstation platforms and/or game streaming services.
- Functional understanding of web service (backend) development technologies, processes and tools.
- Working experience with AWS, Azure or other cloud service providers.
- Working experience with video game backends and services, such as PlayFab, EOS, XBox Live and Playstation Network.
