Design System Lead
Skeletons, lasers, tattoo buses — the Torq brand grabs attention like nothing else in cybersecurity. And we're growing like crazy, backed by Series D funding, 200% employee growth, and 300% revenue growth. Fueling Torq's momentum is our game-changing AI SOC platform, backed by a team and culture that makes Torq one of Forbes' Best Startup Employers in America, and a Business Insider 'startup to bet your career on'.
Life at Torq is all gas, no brakes. We're a team of relentless, collaborative go-getters pushing the boundaries of what's possible for security automation. Every role is an essential driver of Torq's success as the AI-native autonomous SecOps platform of choice for security teams across the Fortune 500.
As Design System Lead, you'll own how Torq's platform looks, feels, and behaves making it clear, consistent, and predictable. You'll build and evolve the design system that powers the entire product, to ensure what we ship is coherent, high-quality, and scalable.
A key part of this role: making our design system AI coding agent-ready, so agents like Claude Code can accurately read our tokens and components and generate consistent UI reducing drift and rework across the team.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:
- Own the Torq design system end-to-end: component library, design tokens, usage guidelines, Storybook, and documentation.
- Ensure consistency and excellence in design execution across every surface of the product.
- Build and maintain a Figma component library that stays in sync with the production codebase.
- Structure the design system for AI coding agent consumption, define how tokens, components, and usage rules are named and documented so that AI agents can accurately interpret and apply them.
- Create and maintain foundational AI context files (e.g., CLAUDE.md) with color rules, component guidelines, interaction patterns, and explicit guardrails for correct component usage.
- Establish versioning, deprecation, and contribution processes so the system evolves in a controlled, predictable way.
WHAT YOU SHOULD BRING TO THE TABLE:
The Designer
- 5+ years of product design experience, with at least 3 years focused on design systems.
- Sharp eye for aesthetics, layout, and detail - you know what great design looks like and you care deeply about the craft.
- Strong UX foundation - you understand information hierarchy, interaction patterns, and usability principles, and know when to introduce a new component versus reuse an existing one.
- Experience working in complex, data-dense B2B or enterprise products - an advantage.
How You Work
- A genuine team player - collaborative, low ego, and open to feedback. You validate decisions with others, iterate based on input, and treat design as a shared effort, not a solo pursuit.
- You love bringing order to chaos: organizing systems, documentation, and processes is genuinely satisfying to you.
- You take ownership, bring the right people together, and drive alignment across design and engineering.
- Curious and always growing - you stay on top of how design systems are evolving, and you love sharing what you learn with the team.
Technical & Systems Depth
- Deep Figma expertise - auto layout, variables, component architecture, and library management.
- Strong understanding of how design systems translate to code: tokens, CSS, and Vue component patterns.
- Builds with accessibility in mind - ensures components meet WCAG standards, with correct color contrast, keyboard navigation, focus states, and ARIA patterns baked into the system by default.
- Knows how AI coding agents consume design systems - understands how naming, structure, and documentation directly affect the quality of AI-generated UI output.
- Proven ability to write documentation precise enough for both human designers and AI agents to act on correctly.
We build AI for a living, and we encourage candidates to use it to prep, research, and sharpen their best work. But we're hiring humans, not chatbots. We want the real you. Use AI to tighten your resume, prep for interviews, research Torq, and outline ideas for written responses. Show up as yourself for live interviews, final assessments (the voice, logic, and reasoning need to be yours), and anywhere we're evaluating how you think — not how you prompt.
Excited about our vision and ready to make an impact as we grow? We'd love to see what you can bring to the team.
