Technical Product Line Manager - Operating Systems

Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions is seeking a Technical Product Line Manager to join the hardware infrastructure team in Guadalajara, Mexico. This individual will be responsible for managing a line of product offerings that complement the Toshiba retail infrastructure portfolio. We are seeking an experienced Technical Product Line Manager (TPLM) to lead the strategic direction, development, and lifecycle management of our Operating System product lines (including Linux, Android). This role requires a blend of strategic thinking, customer empathy, and technical understanding to drive differentiated offerings across retail, embedded, and enterprise environments. 

As the TPLM, you will own the end-to-end product strategy, roadmap, and go-to-market alignment for a multi-OS portfolio that powers mission-critical devices such as Point-of-Sale (POS), Self-Checkout, and other embedded hardware 

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Product Strategy & Roadmap 
  • Define and evolve the long-term vision, roadmap and release plans for the OS product line (TCx SKY, Linux, Android), aligned with company and customer goals. 
  • Conduct competitive analysis, market research, and customer feedback loops to identify opportunities for differentiation and innovation. 
  • Own the lifecycle management: GA planning, versioning (Major, Minor, Service Packs), EOL strategy, patch cadence and Upgrades.  
  • Cross-functional Collaboration 
  • Partner with Engineering, Architecture, QA, and Program Management to deliver high-quality releases on time. 
  • Work closely with Sales, Solution Architects, and Marketing to ensure alignment of positioning, messaging, and enablement. 
  • Collaborate with OEM and silicon partners (e.g., Intel) to maintain hardware compatibility and performance optimization. 
  • Customer & Partner Engagement 
  • Serve as the voice of the customer internally, translating business needs into product requirements. 
  • Lead customer-specific OS engagements, including roadmap alignment, feature requests, and migration plans. 
  • Support customer advisory boards, user group conferences, and strategic account briefings. 
  • Financial Ownership 
  • Manage portfolio P&L including licensing models, cost structures, and forecast planning. 
  • Prioritize investment areas based on ROI, adoption metrics, and long-term business value. 
  • Product Metrics & KPIs 
  • Track product adoption, version penetration, and defect trends. 
  • Define KPIs for release velocity, customer satisfaction, and operational efficiency. 
  • Present performance reports to executive leadership with clear insights and actionable recommendations, in monthly and quarterly portfolio reviews 
  • Technical Responsibilities  
  • Operating System Architecture & Integration 
  • Define and maintain OS architecture blueprints for TCx SKY, TCx OS Linux, TCx OS for Android platforms tailored to embedded retail environments. 
  • Lead OS image design and optimization for performance, security, and footprint efficiency (e.g., TCx Sky vs. general-purpose Linux). 
  • Drive integration of OS with firmware, BIOS/UEFI, and device drivers across multiple hardware platforms. 
  • Build Systems & Toolchains 
  • Work with Infrastructure team to define the configuration and maintenance of OS build systems such as Yacto, AOSP 
  • Collaborate with engineering to define reproducible build pipelines and CI/CD workflows for OS releases 
  • Security & Compliance 
  • Define and enforce OS-level security baselines, including secure boot, disk encryption, and patch management policies. 
  • Ensure compliance with industry certifications (e.g., EU RED Wireless, MDM readiness). 
  • Hardware Enablement & Compatibility 
  • Lead OS validation across Toshiba hardware platforms (e.g., TCx 820, 620, 900) and manage HW compatibility matrices 
  • Coordinate with silicon vendors (e.g., Intel, AMD) for BSP updates, microcode integration, and performance tuning 
  • Telemetry, Diagnostics & Remote Management 
  • Define telemetry and logging frameworks for OS health, diagnostics, and remote support readiness. 
  • Collaborate with DevOps and MDM teams to enable remote provisioning, updates, and monitoring. 
  • Lifecycle & Release Engineering 
  • Own the OS lifecycle strategy including GA, LTS, EOL, and patch cadence across multiple product lines. 
  • Adhere and align with versioning schemes and coordinate with manufacturing for OS preloads and factory image readiness. 
  • Technical Documentation & Developer Enablement 
  • Collaborate with Engineering team to Produce and maintain technical documentation including OS release notes, integration guides 
  • Support internal and external teams on effectively using the OS and guidance on writing apps on it, this can be done through FAQ documents, best practices etc. 
  • Cross-Functional Technical Leadership 
  • Act as the technical liaison between product management, system software engineering, QA, and hardware teams. 
  • Identify support efficiency by collaborating with Engineering team on defect RCA’s and identifying improvements  
  • Collaborate with Engineering teams by participating in technical reviews, design walkthroughs, and root cause analysis for OS-related issues. 

Qualifications:  

Required: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field; MBA or equivalent experience preferred. 
  • 8+ years in Product Management, with 3+ years specifically managing Operating Systems or system software. 
  • Deep understanding of embedded operating systems, including Linux distributions, Android OS. 
  • Proven experience in delivering commercial OS products, ideally in retail, industrial, or edge computing verticals.  
  • Strong grasp of OS testing, security, telemetry, driver support, and firmware integration. 
  • Experience working with Yacto, AOSP, or other OS build systems. 
  • Pragmatic Marketing Framework experience desired 
  • Understanding of SAFe Agile methodology and software development lifecycle  
  • Strong analytical skills, financial acumen, and strategic business capabilities 

Preferred: 

  • Knowledge of device management (MDM, DevOps pipelines, Git-based release workflows). 
  • Experience with partner certifications (e.g., GMS for Android).

  • Excellent communication skills — capable of influencing technical and non-technical stakeholders, in English and Spanish
