Sr Technical Product Owner

Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions is hiring a Technical Product Owner (TPO) for the hardware infrastructure team in Guadalajara, Mexico. The TPO will lead the roadmap, feature prioritization, and delivery of OEM Operating Systems like Windows IoT and OEM Linux distributions for retail and embedded systems. This role bridges business needs, customer requirements, and engineering execution, acting as the product's voice across teams. It demands strategic thinking, customer empathy, and technical expertise to create differentiated offerings in retail, embedded, and enterprise environments. The TPO will report to the Director of System Software.

As the Technical Product Owner (TPO), you will own the end-to-end product strategy, roadmap, and go-to-market alignment for a multi-OEM OS portfolio that powers mission-critical devices such as Point-of-Sale (POS), Self-Checkout, and other embedded hardware

Key Responsibilities:

  • Product Strategy & Roadmap
    • Define and evolve the long-term vision, roadmap and release plans for the OS product line (OEM Linux, Windows IOT), aligned with company and customer goals.
    • Ensure timely delivery of OEM OS roadmaps, service packs, and security updates, working in Agile/Scrum environments.
    • Conduct competitive analysis, market research, and customer feedback loops to identify opportunities for differentiation and innovation.
    • Own the lifecycle management: GA planning, versioning (Major, Minor, Service Packs), EOL strategy, patch cadence and work with Manufacturing and development teams for OS Pre-Loads on Retail Hardware
    • Act as the primary liaison between internal stakeholders (sales, support, solutions teams) and development teams, translating high-level requirements into detailed technical stories.
    • Participate in sprint planning, reviews, and daily stand-ups to ensure clarity and velocity.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration
    • Partner with Hardware Product Line Managers, Engineering, Architecture, QA, and Program Management to deliver high-quality releases on time.
    • Work closely with Sales, Solution Architects, and Marketing to ensure alignment of positioning, messaging, and enablement.
    • Collaborate with OEM and silicon partners (e.g., Intel) to maintain hardware compatibility and performance optimization.
    • Drive the integration of Windows and OEM Linux OS with specific hardware platforms, peripherals, and enterprise software stacks.
  • Customer & Partner Engagement
    • Work closely with OEM partners (Microsoft, Linux vendors) and internal compliance teams for license management, updates, and certifications.
    • Serve as the voice of the customer internally, translating business needs into product requirements.
    • Lead customer-specific OS engagements, including roadmap alignment, feature requests, and migration plans.
    • Support customer advisory boards, user group conferences, and strategic account briefings.
  • Product Metrics & KPIs
    • Track product adoption, version penetration, and defect trends.
    • Track and report key KPIs including OS adoption, system performance, defect rates, and release timelines.
    • Define KPIs for release velocity, customer satisfaction, and operational efficiency.
    • Present performance reports to executive leadership with clear insights and actionable recommendations, in monthly and quarterly portfolio reviews

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in Product Management or Product Ownership, with at least 3 years in system software or OS-level product roles.
  • Strong technical understanding of Windows IoT, embedded Linux (Yocto, Debian, RHEL-based).
  • Experience in working with hardware/software integration, preferably in the OEM or embedded systems space.
  • Proficiency in Agile/Scrum methodologies and using tools such as Jira, Confluence, GitLab.
  • Excellent communication skills in English and Spanish, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to influence cross-functional teams without direct authority.
  • Pragmatic Marketing Framework experience desired
  • Understanding of SAFe Agile methodology and software development lifecycle
  • Strong analytical skills, financial acumen, and strategic business capabilities

Preferred:

  • Experience working with retail, POS, or industrial hardware platforms.
  • Familiarity with secure boot, OS hardening, and regulatory compliance
  • Prior experience with Microsoft OEM licensing, GMS certification, or Linux distro builds.
