Director, Enterprise Data Platform Transformation

Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions is seeking a Director, Enterprise Data Platform Transformation is responsible for leading the modernization, standardization, and governance of TGCS’s enterprise data estate on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).

This role owns the enterprise data platform strategy, guiding the evolution of legacy data warehouses, data marts, and analytics environments toward a unified, scalable, and trusted OCI‑native data platform. The Director defines architectural standards, establishes platform governance, and ensures enterprise data is discoverable, reliable, secure, and cost‑controlled to support analytics, reporting, and AI enablement.

The Director partners closely with Enterprise Architecture, Cybersecurity, Infrastructure, Finance, and business domain leaders, while providing leadership and direction to platform and data engineering teams. This role sets the vision and operating model for enterprise data platforms; execution and day‑to‑day operations are delivered through subordinate platform leadership.

RESPONSIBILITY 

Platform Strategy & Architecture

  • Define and own the enterprise data platform vision, roadmap, and target‑state architecture on OCI.
  • Lead the modernization of legacy data platforms, driving convergence toward a unified, scalable enterprise data foundation.
  • Establish and enforce enterprise standards for data platform design, integration, and evolution.

Data Governance & Unified Data Catalog

  • Establish the enterprise approach for data governance, metadata, lineage, and stewardship.
  • Mandate and oversee adoption of a unified enterprise data catalog as the foundation for trusted analytics and AI.
  • Ensure governance practices are embedded into platform standards and operating models.

Platform Oversight & Operational Governance

  • Provide executive oversight for data platform operations, reliability, and resilience.
  • Set expectations for DataOps and SRE practices, ensuring platform stability, performance, and recoverability.
  • Govern OCI‑managed services and third‑party vendors through clear accountability and performance management.

Cost Control & Platform Efficiency

  • Ensure platform architecture and standards promote efficient use of cloud resources.
  • Establish guardrails and monitoring practices to prevent waste and uncontrolled growth.
  • Partner with Finance and Infrastructure to align platform consumption with business value.

Stakeholder Leadership & Change Enablement

  • Act as the enterprise authority for data platform direction, resolving cross‑domain conflicts and trade‑
  • Communicate platform strategy, progress, risks, and outcomes to executive leadership.
  • Drive organizational adoption of standardized data platform practices across business units.

 

AREAS OF EXPERTISE & SPECIAL SKILLS

 

ENTERPRISE DATA PLATFORM & CLOUD ARCHITECTURE

  • Proven leadership in modernizing enterprise data estates, including migration of legacy data warehouses and marts to cloud native platforms.
  • Deep understanding of cloud data architectures, with strong preference for Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
  • Ability to define and enforce enterprise wide platform standards for data ingestion, transformation, storage, access, and lifecycle management.
  • Experience aligning data platforms with enterprise architecture principles and business priorities.

DATA MODERNIZATION & GOVERNANCE

  • Strong expertise in enterprise data governance models, including ownership, stewardship, metadata, lineage, and data certification.
  • Demonstrated experience establishing and scaling a unified enterprise data catalog to enable data discovery, trust, and reuse.
  • Ability to balance governance and control with agility and innovation across analytics and AI use cases.

PLATFORM RELIABILITY & OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE

  • Strong background in platform reliability, operational maturity, and automation.
  • Experience setting expectations and standards for DataOps, SRE, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, observability, and incident management.
  • Ability to govern managed service providers and cloud vendors through clear accountability, SLAs, and performance metrics.

COST CONTROL & PLATFORM EFFICIENCY

  • Demonstrated ability to embed cost control into platform architecture, standards, and operational practices.
  • Experience establishing guardrails, monitoring usage patterns, and optimizing platform consumption to ensure predictable and efficient cloud spend.
  • Ability to partner effectively with Finance and Infrastructure teams without owning financial operations directly.

LEADERSHIP & COMMUNICATION

  • Strong executive presence with the ability to communicate complex platform concepts to technical and non technical audiences.
  • Proven capability to influence across organizational boundaries and drive enterprise level change.
  • Strategic mindset combined with sufficient technical depth to guide senior engineers and architects.
