Camp Counselor Lead

The Town of Snowmass Village is looking to hire a Camp Counselor Lead to join our Parks, Recreation and Trails team! 

 

This is an in-person part-time position, offering part-time benefits  and scheduled to start working on or after May 2025            

 

We are looking for a camp counselor that will assist with the planning, organization, and implementation of camp activities, supervise camp counselors, and oversee the day-to-day operations of the Summer Day Camp program. This position will supervise and monitor all camp participants and will actively participate in all activities.

 

Some of the day-to-day duties are listed below: 

  • Directs the day-to-day operations, developing and implementing schedules for all campers and staff, while maintaining safety and well-being.
  • Serves as an appropriate role model for all camp participants and counselors through cleanliness, punctuality, sharing, clean-up, and sportsmanship.
  • Creates safe, unique recreation opportunities for camp participants that includes field trips, arts and crafts, sports, and games.
  • Organizes, promotes, manages, and supervises summer camp activities, events, classes and programs. Develops plans for alternate activities for camp in case of an emergency, weather related issue, or unplanned openings in the daily schedule.
  • Participates in staff trainings and meetings.
  • Oversight of camp counselors during day-to-day camp operations ensuring participation and attention of camp participants and activities.
  • Maintains an accurate and organized log of all staff, camp participants, and interactions with parents regarding accidents, behavior, and incidents.
  • Ensures parent/guardian receive a daily account of their child’s participation and behavior at camp.
  • Notifies the Program Coordinator and/or Assistant Director of purchasing needs.
  • Researches and recommends new crafts/activities that may need items purchased to be completed.
  • Maintains good rapport with camp parents, Departmental staff, and camp participants.
  • Supervises assigned program participants and, when the Program Coordinator is unavailable, the Camp Counselor staff during day-to-day operations.

The ideal candidate has the following qualifications:  

  • Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, self-control, good character, integrity, and adaptability. 
  • Ability to deal with conflict professionally and effectively.
  • Ability to relate to youth as well as one’s peer group.
  • Experience with working with children and peers of a similar age. Interest in growing professionally in the recreation, education, or similar field.
  • Experience with, interest in, and knowledge of children and concern for their proper care and well-being.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age, must have at least 3 months of full time or equivalent part-time verifiable experience with school aged children.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED Certification (provided during Counselor Training)
  • Universal precaution certificate (provided during Counselor Training)
  • Authorization for mandatory criminal record checks submitted to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation for child abuse and neglect.
  • Adherence to and familiarity with the Colorado State Childcare licensing regulations.
  • Must complete 18 hours of pre-season training before the first day of camp.
