
Assistant Transportation Director
The Town of Snowmass Village is looking to hire an Assistant Transportation Director to join our Transportation Department!
This is an in-person position
$1,000 sign-on bonus available!
We are looking for an Assistant Transportation Director who will assist in planning, organizing, and directing the operation of a year-round municipal bus system, public parking operation, and related properties; ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to transit services; and assist in preparing budgets, coordinating capital purchases, managing grants, and reporting technical data. In addition, this position serves as the Town Safety Officer, overseeing the development, implementation, and enforcement of the Town's safety protocols, including risk assessments, safety training, emergency preparedness, and accident prevention across departments
Some of the day-to-day duties are listed below:
- Assist in planning and directing the operation of a municipal bus system, public parking operation, and related properties.
- Support financial oversight of revenues and expenditures, ensuring proper account coding and monitoring of purchases.
- Recommend and manages contractual agreements as delegated by the Director.
- Prepare and present information on services, safety, and planning efforts in a public forum.
- Assist with the hiring of employees and helps oversee employee development.
- Serve as the Town Safety Officer, developing and enforcing town-wide safety procedures, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations.
- Conduct regular risk assessments, safety meetings, safety audits, and emergency drills across all town departments.
- Coordinate information and services with other departments, public agencies, and private operators, particularly regarding safety protocols.
- Support the application and management of state and federal grants and ensures compliance with guidelines for reimbursement and reporting.
- Analyze transit and parking services for efficiency and plans for future department needs.
- Evaluate progress in meeting departmental goals and safety standards.
The ideal candidate has the following qualifications/skills:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as transportation planning, land-use planning, public administration, or a related discipline or any combination of experience in related fields that equates. Advanced degrees or certifications may be preferred.
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience working in transit administration and/or operations,
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a supervisory capacity.
- Experience in grant administration, state and federal planning processes, and the regulations, guidelines, and principles of mass transit services is required.
- Possession of trainer certificates in safety and training related programs such as Passenger Assistance Safety & Sensitivity (PASS), Defensive Driving, and Accident Investigation is preferred.
- Knowledge of the management, operation, and capital acquisition for a municipal transit department.
- Knowledge of requirements and modern principles of transit and parking system planning and operation.
- Knowledge of safety principles and regulations.
- Ability to develop and implement safety procedures, conduct training, and perform risk assessments.
- Strong understanding of state and federal grant administration, and compliance with safety and transit regulations.
- Ability to work well and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with employees, coworkers, and the public.
- Knowledge of computer technology and ability to utilize software to effectively execute job responsibilities.
- Knowledge of the laws and regulations relative to transit operations under the Federal Motor Carriers Safety Administration and the Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), the Americans with Disabilities Act and Passenger Service and Safety (PASS) program, Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, the Federal Drug Free Workplace Act, and Drug and Alcohol policies.
- Valid CDL, Class B rated with P2 and Air Brake endorsements or ability to acquire within 3 months.
- Comply with Drug and Alcohol Testing guidelines per the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, Department of Transportation, at 49 C.F.R. Part 382, and the Town’s Drug and Alcohol Policy.
- Certification in “Reasonable Suspicion” and “Post Accident” drug and alcohol testing or ability to acquire within 3 months.
- Travel to conferences/trainings within state 2-4 times per/year. Travel to conferences/training outside of state 1-2 times per/year.
