Buyer
Position Summary
The Buyer is responsible for sourcing and purchasing raw materials, components, and equipment essential for our manufacturing operations. This role requires strong negotiation skills, effective communication, and the ability to manage supplier relationships to ensure timely delivery and quality compliance.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Buyer in the manufacturing industry, preferably within sectors such as Defense and Aerospace.
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of industry-specific regulatory and compliance requirements
Skills:
- Strong negotiation and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with inventory management and MRP systems.
Job Responsibilities
- Identify, evaluate, and establish relationships with suppliers to procure high-quality materials and components.
- Initiate and distribute change notices for purchased items such as changes in specifications, part numbers and sources
- Negotiate terms, prices, and contracts with suppliers to secure favorable agreements.
- Expedite and follow up purchase orders and quotes as required, with daily review of open order report, daily shorts, and quotation log
- Prepare and process purchase orders in accordance with company policies and requirements.
- Monitor inventory levels to ensure optimal stock without overstocking; coordinate with production to forecast future material needs.
- Ensure all purchased materials and components meet required specifications and quality standards.
- Process returned purchased items that are not acceptable or do not meet specifications
- Stay informed about market trends, pricing fluctuations, and supply chain dynamics to make informed purchasing decisions.
- Maintain accurate records of purchases, pricing, and supplier performance.
- Work closely with engineering, production, and quality assurance teams to align procurement activities with company objectives.
Internal and External Relationships
This position interacts with production, quality, and engineering departments on a regular basis. This position will also interact with outside vendors and contractors.
