Manufacturing Engineering Technician

Position Summary

The Manufacturing Engineering Technician supports CEPA's business in a Manufacturing Engineering and Document Control role in order to achieve maximum growth and profitability. This role enables CEPA's Manufacturing Technicians to successfully execute the on-time delivery of high-quality finished goods to all of our valued customers.

This position is the bridge between customer requirements and the production floor. You'll review customer drawings and documentation, build accurate BOMs and labor plans, and make sure our technicians have clear instructions, the right tooling, and up-to-date travelers for every job. You'll also own document control, keeping revision levels accurate and processing ECOs, ECRs, and stop work orders.

This is a hands-on role. You'll work closely with Production, Sales, Quality, and customers, spend time on the floor supporting technicians and expedited jobs, and help identify and fix issues before they impact quality, cost, or delivery. It's a great fit for someone with a strong cable/harness or RF assembly background who enjoys problem solving and wants their work to directly support the military and aerospace products we build.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate's degree or technical certificate in manufacturing, electronics, or a related field preferred.

Experience:

  • 4+ years of experience in Cable/Harness or RF assembly processes in an Engineering role.
  • Experience in an AS9100 or ISO 9001 certified manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, or other high-reliability manufacturing preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Accuracy and attention to details.
  • Will project a professional image within the company facility and in all CEPA employees, vendors, and customer relations.
  • Will maintain a sense of teamwork with all employees.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and specifications.
  • Working knowledge of IPC/WHMA-A-620 and J-STD-001 (certification preferred).
  • Familiarity with RF connectors, coaxial cable assembly, and related termination methods.
  • Knowledge of crimp, solder, and termination tooling and how to select the right tooling for a job.
  • Understanding of document control, revision control, and ECO/ECR processes.*
  • Basic root cause analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience creating BOMs, travelers, and work instructions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and experience with ERP/MRP systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work with Production, Sales, Quality, and customers.

Job Responsibilities

Manufacturing Engineering

  • Review and vet material summary sheet created by Sales Dept during time of quote for accuracy.
  • Create internal Bill of Materials (BOM) derived from customer provided documentation that meet all customer drawing requirements, notes and purchase order Q-note flow downs.
  • Create detailed labor plans with step-by-step instruction to support Production process workflow.
  • Perform pre-production Engineering review of customer provided documentation for risk assessment and interpretation. Proactively identify and mitigate customer drawing errors/omissions that would otherwise potentially cause delivery delays or impact cost.
  • Support Manufacturing personnel to review and interpret all notes detailed in customer or CEPA drawing notes to provide interpretation and direction/clarification.
  • Identify and procure required tooling to meet Production and customer drawing requirements.
  • Review customer NCMR's to determine and document root cause of quality escapes resulting in a request for customer RMA's. Creation of detailed labor plan and bill of materials in the rework of non-conforming product.
  • Process customer drawing Engineering Change Orders and initiate/process internal CEPA ECO's accordingly.

Document Control

  • Continuously improve all Document Control processes.
  • Safeguard and maintain CEPA and Customer revision levels for all assemblies.
  • Process ECRs, ECOs, as well as Stop Work Orders.
  • Identify/maintain all supplier datasheets and assembly instructions. Establish and print all necessary traveler documentation for Production Technicians.
  • Develop and upgrade work order travelers with detailed steps, processes and correct tooling.
  • Document new procedures and assist in developing and implementing technical training programs, as the specific occasion requires.

Production & Company Support

  • Assist with hands on training of Production Technicians on new products, tooling and process revisions.
  • Work with assembly personnel in training on new techniques, tooling use or set-up, etc.
  • Work in the assembly area to assist on customer-expedited jobs or as deemed necessary by management.
  • Provide expertise and assistance in the estimation of assembly time, test time, material and tooling requirements, scrap rates, etc. for quotation purposes.
  • Work with Sales and Customer for technical support.
  • Learn, understand, and perform other duties, which may be assigned by Department Management.
  • Other responsibilities, initiatives and projects as required to support Production needs as assigned.
