JOB SUMMARY:
The X-Lab Software Engineer supports the program’s Experimentation Laboratory responsible for developing and integrating future-capability prototypes for the Missile Defense System. This role contributes to the development, testing, and integration of software solutions supporting advanced missile defense technologies including sensor/weapon integration, algorithm development, and user interface development. The engineer works as part of a software development team in a fast-paced experimentation environment focused on innovation and prototype capability development.
SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Develop and test innovative software solutions supporting experimentation laboratory projects and experiments.
• Perform software development primarily using Java within a large distributed system.
• Conduct complex problem resolution including design, development, testing, integration, and user support for a large code baseline.
• Follow specifications to develop new functionality or modify existing code.
• Provide in-depth analysis and technical support of distributed software systems.
• Assist with system design activities including benchmark testing, debugging, and documentation.
• Interface with other system support groups to resolve problems, establish standards, and improve overall system efficiency.
• Design, code, test, and implement automation tools.
• Work independently or as part of a small team in a highly dynamic environment.
• Communicate technical information clearly through written and verbal communication.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
• Software development experience using Java.
• Experience performing software design, development, testing, and integration activities.
• Experience supporting or troubleshooting large distributed software systems.
• Experience working with large software code baselines.
• Ability to follow technical specifications to develop or modify software functionality.
• Experience supporting development of automation tools.
• Ability to work independently or collaboratively within engineering teams.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
PRFERRED EXPERIENCE:
• Command and control system application development.
• Experience with message translation software.
• Automated testing and CI/CD pipeline development.
• Software integration testing and development of automated test scripts.
• Experience designing and developing microservices.
• Experience deploying containerized applications.
• Experience working with container tools such as Docker or Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with Java Spring framework.
• Backend development and message passing architectures.
• Enterprise application development experience.
• Software development for Unix/Linux and Windows platforms.
• Understanding of systems engineering, systems design, and development practices.
• Ability to document activities, develop project plans, and produce summary reports.
• Knowledge of software development practices and coding standards.
• Security+ certification obtained within 60 days of hire.
EDUCATION: Bachelors with 5+ or Master with 3+ Years of Experience
LOCATION: Full Time/ On-Site at Schriever AFB in Colorado Springs, CO
CLEARANCE REQUIRMENT: Secret
DOD 8570 REQUIREMENT: IAT - Level II
SALARY RANGE: $105,000 to $ 127,000

Estimated Pay Range
$105,000 - $127,000 USD
