Financial Crime Manager

We are currently searching for an experienced Financial Crime Manager who will act as the MLRO for the UK with a strong understanding of the financial crime risk landscape and in-depth knowledge of regulatory expectations in the UK.  You will lead the financial crime program for our UK-regulated entity. The role will act as a senior domain expert for Anti-Money Laundering, Counter Financing of Terrorism and Sanctions (“AML/CFT and sanctions”) Compliance regulation and as the appointed MLRO, supporting the Board and compliance management team in day-to-day activity. You will report to the Group Chief Compliance Officer with a dotted line into the MLRO Function Head  and work closely with other Heads of Function. 

You will be responsible for supporting our UK entity and ensuring that AML/CFT and Sanctions regulatory compliance obligations are achieved at all times, including daily management of the AML/CFT and Sanctions Program, management of independent reviews / external audits, conducting gap analysis, reviewing and submitting SARs, preparing and submitting regulatory reports, maintaining program documentation tracking, and providing recommendations in program improvements. You will also work closely on group-wide program initiatives. 

You will be working on and have had previous experience with:

  • Develop and maintain the AML/CFT and Sanctions policy and procedures in line with applicable statutory and regulatory obligations and to the specific risks faced by the company.
  • Lead, coordinate and monitor AML/CFT and Sanctions regulatory inspections, investigations, thematic reviews, inquiries, self-assessments, surveys, questionnaires, reporting, and consultations to ensure timely and quality submissions
  • Conduct periodic risk assessments of money laundering and terrorist financing. risks and advise the company's governing body/senior management on necessary actions to mitigate those risks.
  • Develop and oversee internal procedures about customer onboarding, monitoring, and Suspicious Activity Reporting (SARs) as per local regulations.
  • Review and, if necessary, submit SARs to the National Crime Agency (NCA) when suspicious transactions or activities are identified
  • Working closely with other teams across the group to ensure that UK regulatory requirements are impeded into business-as-usual processes.
  • Ensure that all departmental policies and procedures are current and comply with applicable UK laws, regulations, and guidance. This includes performing comprehensive gap assessments of these requirements and strategically planning appropriate mitigation actions.
  • Working with product and operational teams to implement new features in a compliant manner.
  • Ensure that appropriate measures are in place so that money laundering, terrorist financing and sanction evasion risks are taken into account in the company's day-to-day operations.
  • Advising the Board on regulatory issues and the regulatory landscape, including new and emerging developments supported by data-driven or evidence-driven analysis. 
  • Overseeing the drafting and ongoing maintenance of robust policies and procedures to reflect regulatory developments and best practices.
  • Approval of higher-risk relationships.
  • Responsibility for  the effectiveness of the company's AML/CFT and Sanctions Quality Assurance programme and make improvements as necessary to adapt to emerging risks and changes in regulations.
  • Preparation of the Annual MLRO report.
  • Maintaining an effective relationship with the regulator, and other key external stakeholders and managing all regulatory inquiries and reviews, including reporting and notification matters.
  • Stay informed of evolving regulations.
  • Support group-level AML/CFT and Sanctions initiatives to ensure there are common and consistent processes applied, in particular Quality Assurance and other initiatives as directed by Group Chief Compliance Officer and MLRO Function Head.
  • Promote a culture of compliance and ethical practices.

Experience you should have:

  • 5+ years experience in the fintech industry within a large and high-growth company that provides financial products and services (ideally Payments/Electronic Money), and proven experience in AML compliance.
  • Excellent knowledge of legal, regulatory, and industry requirements, and business processes, standards, policies and procedures relating to financial crime.
  • Previous experience as MLRO or DMLRO is desirable.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Law, Finance, Business, or related fields. Advanced certifications (e.g., ICA, CAMS) are preferred.
  • Familiarity with AML technology tools and platforms.
  • A team player with excellent time and project management skills and the ability to successfully manage multiple projects at one time.
  • Have excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate the ability to see the big picture, analyse risks, and make recommendations for improvements to mitigate those risks within the product.
  • Experience with regulators and the regulatory framework.
