AI Engineer - Frontend
About Traversal
Traversal is the AI Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) for the enterprise—already trusted by some of the largest companies in the world to troubleshoot, remediate, and even prevent the most complex production incidents. Our mission is to free engineers from endless firefighting and enable them to focus on creative, high-impact work.
Our roots remain deeply embedded in AI research, and we’re channeling that scientific rigor and creativity into building the premier AI agent lab for the enterprise. Hence, what we’re proudest of is assembling the most talented yet nicest group of individuals, including researchers from MIT, Harvard, and Berkeley, to world-class engineers from industry: Citadel Securities, Cockroach Labs, Cerebras Systems, Glean, Nuro, Perplexity, Pinecone, and more, to take on one of the hardest problems for AI to solve. Without the entire team, none of this would be possible.
The Role
As a Frontend AI Engineer, you’ll design and build high-performance interfaces, solve complex UI challenges, and create seamless integrations with our AI agent systems. UI/UX for AI Agents remains largely unsolved, creating space for real innovation and experimentation. You’ll help define and deliver the next generation of intuitive interfaces for complex, real-time, AI-powered systems. This is a high-impact, technically challenging role at the intersection of AI, UI/UX, and infrastructure—with the opportunity to shape a truly next-gen product experience.
Responsibilities
- Architecture & Development: Lead the design and development of frontend interfaces for our AI agent-powered troubleshooting system.
- Collaboration: Partner closely with AI researchers, backend engineers, product managers, and designers to build and refine product features and user experiences.
- User Experience: Innovate and drive the evolution of UX/UI design, rapidly iterating based on user feedback to improve overall usability.
- Consistency & Design Systems: Ensure consistency in design and user experience across the application using reusable components and a shared design system.
- Data Visualization: Develop intuitive interfaces for presenting and interacting with complex time-series and topological data.
- Product Impact: Translate AI-powered insights into user-friendly features that empower engineers and reduce cognitive load.
- Mentorship: Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, helping them grow while fostering a collaborative and learning-focused culture.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in frontend development, ideally in AI or observability domains.
- Strong proficiency in React (required), with experience using TypeScript, Next.js, and TailwindCSS for building fast, responsive, and maintainable frontends.
- Note: You don’t need to meet every single requirement. If you have deep experience in a subset of these areas, we encourage you to apply.
Nice to Have
- Contributions to personal portfolio websites or side projects (a great signal of passion and initiative, though not required).
- Background in building large-scale, complex, data-driven applications.
- Familiarity with AI or LLM-powered products.
