Product Systems Engineer - Uncrewed Aircraft Systems

Our Tactical Communications Radio Product Group is seeking a Product Systems Engineer specializing in wireless systems for Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS). You would be responsible for driving system design related to use of TrellisWare radios and modules within UAS platforms. This includes identification of key requirements affecting the system and TrellisWare products, overseeing design and implementation of those requirements, and leading laboratory and field verification of UAS platforms incorporating TrellisWare products. The successful Product Systems Engineer will fulfill these responsibilities working collaboratively with Product Management, Program Management, and Sales along with engineering leads from Hardware, Software, and Product Test.

The essential duties and responsibilities include:

  • Work with Business Development and Product Management to clearly identify system requirements and features of UAS platforms and applicable TrellisWare products. This may include technical proposal support, technical customer presentations and meetings.
  • Lead system design/architecture development for UAS systems across Trellisware engineering organization for RF, Waveform, Networking, and Application layers.
  • Drive features and interfaces to ease and accelerate integration of TrellisWare products into UAS ecosystems across all phases – installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance.
  • Work with UAS partners and vendors to verify high quality integrations that meet performance requirements for platform and end user scenarios.
  • Continuously identify implementation risks and issues and work across TrellisWare engineering disciplines, UAS partner engineering, and end customer representatives to minimize project impacts.
  • Lead system-level debug efforts to resolve complex issues efficiently.
  • Provide hands-on technical support to TrellisWare business team and customers for product trials and demonstrations.
  • Stay current on leading communication system and UAS technologies and associated end user use cases.
  • Author and present technical reports at customer and industry events showcasing successful UAS customer successes with TrellisWare products.
  • Act as a resource/expert for UAS systems and provide mentoring, review, and direction to other engineering staff. 
  • Develop relationships with team members based on trust and respect.

Education and work experience requirements are:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field of study. Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ industry experience with at least three years of Product Systems Engineering and or Product System level Verification.

To be considered for this position, you will have working knowledge of many of the areas listed below and be an expert in several:

  • Multiple examples of successful project leadership to deliver military or commercial wireless products – Examples: Commercial (GSM, CDMA, LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc.), Military (SRW, WNW, MUOS, Link-16, etc.)  
  • Multiple years of experience with Uncrewed Autonomous Systems - design, integration, and/or test.  Evidence of leading successful verified integrations is particularly important. 
  • Project management of HW, SW, Product Test, and Manufacturing disciplines.
  • Extensive experience interfacing with customer/business development for requirements definition, training, product demonstration or support.
  • RF system design and/or test for wireless systems on UAS including antenna design, antenna placement, Cosite of multiple RF systems, and EMI management.
  • Waveform performance verification – particularly in real world field environments.
  • Ability to abstract complex, technical concepts and communicate them in a clear, relevant, complete manner to others.
  • Ability to work independently, demonstrate initiative and interact with a variety of engineering development teams.
  • Demonstrates analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills.

TrellisWare Technologies pays competitively according to the market in an individual's geographic location, in addition to their qualifications and experience. The posted range is annually and for individuals located in the San Diego, CA area.

$115,000 - $185,000 USD
