The SEO Team at Tripadvisor is well known for staying ahead of our competitors, and we are looking for a strong engineering lead to help define our future. The SEO Team’s widely used analytics and other data driven tools the team has built over the years have been key to this success. You will help the team refine our SEO platform with new approaches, digging more deeply into our data, utilizing new technologies, building out new tools and refining existing ones. SEO is no longer just page-rank, it has evolved into a highly competitive landscape including both user experience metrics as well as site content and structure. You will be working with some of the best SEO practitioners in the space utilizing extensive PB sized datasets to understand what is working and how it works. Creativity, curiosity and a willingness to dig deeply into both our success and failures and those of our competitors is key to being successful.

 

Day to day work as a Principal Software Engineer on the team will entail building out tools leveraging our wide ranging data sets. You will define the technology roadmap of our SEO platform, along-side our SEO analysts using it. You will lead a small team of dedicated engineers in the execution. Our SEO platform has provided significant growth to Tripadvisor throughout the years. The systems that you own will be critical to SEO and also provide insight to teams and business leaders across the company!

 

Location: This opportunity offers the chance to work fully remotely, hybrid or office based. Our US offices are based in Needham, MA and El Segundo, CA.

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Build and drive a technical roadmap for our SEO platform
  • Design solutions to business problems by building new tools and/or processes
  • Take on projects with independence and a mandate to leave things better than you found them.
  • Be pragmatic when solving problems with a deep understanding of the purpose and goal of your work.
  • Be integral for the code quality on your team through leadership in design and code review.
  • Be a mentor for others on the team.
  • Help bring the team's technical knowledge and solutions to the engineering organization via tech talks and design reviews.

 

Skills and Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience as a professional engineer.
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent
  • Deep experience querying, ETLing, and analyzing large data sets in databases
  • Prior experience running and executing large scale initiatives successfully
  • Prior partnerships with business leaders, working collaboratively to achieve substantial goals
  • Solid foundation in data structures, algorithms, and OO design

 

Nice to have:

  • Prior experience managing Linux systems and JBOD/RAID infrastructure
  • Experience working with HTML/CSS and interacting with the DOM
  • Some exposure to the following technologies: Python, Perl, SQL, Snowflake, React, Postgres, Gradle, BERT, AWS.

 

The base salary range for this role is $150,000 to $215,000. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. An employee’s pay position within the wage range will be based on several factors including, but limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs. This compensation range may also be modified in the future.
