Environmental Health & Safety Consulting Director

Florham Park, NJ

Environmental Health & Safety Consulting Director

Triumvirate Environmental is growing its consulting practice and hiring the engagement leaders who will shape it. Our embedded and waste services are rated by clients among the best in life sciences. Our consulting work grows out of those relationships and is held to the same standard, so you start with client trust most consultants spend years building. The EHS Consulting Director is the person who makes that true, engagement by engagement.

You own a portfolio of consulting engagements and on-site deployments for life sciences, healthcare and advanced manufacturing clients in your region. You scope each engagement in person with the account team and the relevant technical specialist before a number goes out. You set the workplan, the staffing, the status cadence and the quality checkpoints at assignment. You sign every deliverable before it reaches the client. You run the readout, and you seed the next phase.

You lead teams of 3-5 consultants and you build people. The specialists in industrial hygiene, biosafety, EHS programs and radiological safety sit beside you as technical authorities. You are the engagement's owner: the person the client calls first and the person Triumvirate holds accountable for the work.

This role is for someone trained inside a consulting firm, or someone who has led large, embedded programs and owned the deliverables, who wants to own the work and see it through.

Responsibilities:

  • Engagement ownership. Scope, staff, plan and deliver a portfolio of four to six concurrent engagements. Own the budget and the schedule, and deliver on time and on budget. Spot trouble early and fix it before the client feels it.
  • Quality sign-off. Review and sign every deliverable and proposal in your portfolio before release, on a two-to-four-day turnaround, against the house delivery standard and the discipline standards the specialists own.
  • Client leadership. Serve as the client's day-to-day owner, and coordinate how specialists, the seller and the embedded team engage so the client sees one team. Hold regular reviews with each account's owner, and bring each client a costed next phase. Deliver hard findings in person, and step in personally when a client relationship needs attention.
  • Structured problem solving and readouts. Frame the problem at kickoff and keep the team on the work that changes the answer. Translate technical findings into business terms for senior, non-technical leaders, test draft results with the client before the final readout, and deliver readouts that state the decision, the number and the next step, and that convert into the next phase.
  • Team leverage. Staff a leveraged team so senior time goes to judgment and close-out while consultants execute. Bring specialists in early so they shape the analysis, and keep workloads balanced across the team. Coach often, give direct feedback, and develop people toward promotion.
  • Multi-site programs. Structure programs across sites with one playbook, consistent people and extrapolation logic that the client's leadership can act on.
  • Method building. Help build and teach the delivery methods and standards the practice runs on.
  • Partnership with sales. Join discovery and scoping beside the field seller and support proposal development. Spot the next phase of work while you deliver, build the business case, and hand it to the seller to pursue.

Basic Requirements:

  • 10 to 15+ years of progressive EHS consulting or professional services delivery experience, including 5 or more years owning engagements end to end with sign-off accountability.
  • Training at an environmental, engineering, Big Four or strategy consulting firm, or leadership of large, embedded programs, with personally produced proposals, workplans and readouts.
  • Life sciences (pharmaceutical, biotechnology, contract manufacturing) or advanced manufacturing EHS experience.
  • Demonstrated team leadership, with three or more direct reports or engagement teams of three to five, and people developed and promoted.
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, occupational health and safety, engineering, business or a related field.
  • Based in or willing to relocate to metro New York/New Jersey or Boston, and willing to travel 30% to client sites.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without future sponsorship.
  • Must have a reliable form of transportation.

Preferred Requirements:

  • CSP, CIH, CHMM or PE.
  • Master's degree or MBA.
  • Multi-site program delivery for national/global accounts.
  • Track record presenting technical recommendations to senior, non-technical client executives, such as site heads, operations VPs and finance leaders.
  • Experience in a high-growth or private-equity-backed professional services environment.
  • Familiarity with structured selling methodologies and comfort scoping beside a field seller.
