Test Software Development Intern

Denver, CO

A new space race has begun. True Anomaly seeks those with the talent and ambition to build innovative technology that solves the next generation of engineering, manufacturing, and operational challenges for space security and sustainability.

OUR MISSION

The peaceful use of space is essential for continued prosperity on Earth—from communications and finance to navigation and logistics. True Anomaly builds innovative technology at the intersection of spacecraft, software, and AI to enhance the capabilities of the U.S., its allies, and commercial partners. We safeguard global security by ensuring space access and sustainability for all.

OUR VALUES

  • Be the offset. We create asymmetric advantages with creativity and ingenuity
  • What would it take? We challenge assumptions to deliver ambitious results
  • It’s the people. Our team is our competitive advantage and we are better together

Your Mission

We are seeking a highly motivated Test Software Development Intern to join our team and work closely with our flight software (FSW) and test engineering teams. In this role, you will assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining test software for spacecraft systems. You will support the writing and optimization of test scripts, help manage test data, contribute to functional testing at both the component and vehicle levels, and assist in building internal tools and web-based interfaces for test operations. This internship offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience with Python, JavaScript, React, test automation frameworks, and modern monitoring tools while contributing to cutting-edge aerospace technologies in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and maintenance of test software using Python to automate testing of spacecraft systems at both component and vehicle levels
  • Collaborate with the flight software (FSW) and test engineering teams to integrate test scripts, ensuring software meets both technical and mission-specific requirements
  • Write and maintain test scripts to validate hardware and software interactions, ensuring components and subsystems work as expected in various operational scenarios
  • Assist with implementing real-time monitoring and visualization of test results using tools such as Grafana and InfluxDB
  • Support the design and implementation of automated testing frameworks that enable effective and consistent testing across different mission scenarios
  • Work cross-functionally with test leads to help define and execute functional tests that validate systems, subsystems, and components in line with mission requirements
  • Execute tests and analyze results, identifying anomalies, logging issues, and providing clear reports on test campaign outcomes
  • Assist in developing and maintaining test data pipelines that collect and store test results in structured formats (e.g., JSON), ensuring data integrity and accessibility
  • Help implement test scenarios that simulate real-world spacecraft operations using data-driven approaches
  • Support debugging and troubleshooting of flight software and hardware, helping the team address functional issues that arise during testing
  • Assist in developing frontend interfaces and internal web applications using JavaScript, React, and modern build tools (e.g., Vite) to support test operations and data visualization
  • Contribute to backend development for test infrastructure, including APIs and services that support test automation and data management
  • Document and report test results, providing clear and actionable information for engineering and leadership teams
  • Showcase your work through presentations or project reviews
  • Participate in social and professional events with fellow interns and employees

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field at a four-year accredited university
  • Proficiency in Python for scripting and automation
  • Experience with JavaScript and modern frontend frameworks such as React
  • Familiarity with frontend build tools such as Vite, Webpack, or similar
  • Familiarity with structured data formats such as JSON
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow defined processes
  • Strong documentation and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams
  • Interest in spacecraft systems, flight software, and test automation
  • Must be able to work full time (40 hours per week), on-site in Long Beach, CA for 12 consecutive weeks
  • Intern Program will run May – August 2026
  • Must be able to provide own transportation and housing

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Completed Junior and/or Senior year
  • GPA of 3.5 or above
  • Coursework or project experience in software testing, test-driven development (TDD), or writing unit tests
  • Exposure to test automation frameworks or CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience with backend development, RESTful APIs, or Node.js
  • Familiarity with state management libraries (e.g., Redux, Zustand) or component libraries
  • Familiarity with monitoring and visualization tools such as Grafana, InfluxDB, or similar technologies
  • Experience with other programming languages such as C++ or Java
  • Familiarity with test management tools such as Jira, TestRail, or similar platforms
  • Exposure to spacecraft, avionics, or embedded systems
  • Understanding of hardware/software integration concepts
  • Passionate about advancing space security and sustainability
