
Merchandising Manager (Contract-to-Hire)
True Classic is seeking a creative and commercially minded Merchandising Manager (Contract-to-Hire) to support product development, seasonal merchandising, and market research. This role is hands-on and highly collaborative, working closely with the Co-Founder and Head of Merchandising to shop the market, discover new fabrics and styles, and contribute to brand direction.
The ideal candidate brings a balance of trend awareness, product storytelling, and technical skill in Adobe Creative Suite, with a strong understanding of apparel merchandising fundamentals. This is a great opportunity for someone with a few years of experience looking to grow their influence in product strategy while staying close to design and market discovery.
This is a full-time, in-office role based at our Calabasas, CA headquarters. You’ll be on-site with the team Monday through Friday.
Areas of Accountability
Market Research & Trend Discovery
- Shop the market regularly across retail and digital channels to track emerging styles, fabrics, and competitor assortments.
- Build and maintain seasonal fabric/style libraries.
- Share insights with leadership to inform assortment planning and new product opportunities.
Product Development & Merchandising Support
- Support fabric and trim sourcing by requesting swatches, evaluating quality, and maintaining vendor archives.
- Assist in building seasonal line line sheets, assortment plans, and color/style matrices.
- Create visual merchandising tools (line sheets, lookbooks, presentation decks) in collaboration with Marketing, PD and Wholesale Sales.
Cross-Functional & Go-To-Market Enablement
- Partner with Planning, Marketing, and Creative to ensure product storytelling is aligned with brand and business goals.
- Support seasonal GTM milestones, including line reviews, handoffs, and seasonal launches.
- Provide product input for marketing briefs: features, positioning, performance notes.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in merchandising, buying, or product development (apparel strongly preferred).
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Google Suite.
- Strong knowledge of merchandising fundamentals: assortment building, sell-through analysis, SKU tracking.
- Organized, detail-oriented, and proactive with the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Passion for product creation, trend discovery, and storytelling.
Compensation and Benefits
- Compensation: $40 - $60/hour
