Controller

Los Angeles, CA

True Classic is seeking a strategic, detail-oriented, and operationally excellent Controller to take ownership of our global controllership function — leading all aspects of accounting, treasury, compliance, and financial operations across a fast-growing omnichannel business.

Reporting to the Head of Finance and partnering with our Director FP&A, this role will serve as the cornerstone of True Classic’s financial integrity — ensuring accurate reporting, disciplined controls, and scalable processes that enable strategic growth across DTC, wholesale, retail, and international markets.

This leader will own the entire accounting and controllership landscape — from Treasury and Bookkeeping through to Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and Financial Reporting — while building systems, teams, and automation that keep pace with True Classic’s global expansion.

The ideal candidate brings both hands-on accounting expertise and a strategic operator mindset, capable of building scalable infrastructure and partnering cross-functionally to ensure financial discipline, transparency, and control.

Areas of Accountability

Financial Control & Reporting

  • Ensure the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of all financial statements across entities and business channels.
  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes with rigor and efficiency.
  • Ensure full compliance with US GAAP and local statutory requirements across all jurisdictions.
  • Partner with FP&A and the Head of Finance to align reporting with strategic business insights and forecasts.
  • Establish robust internal controls, reconciliations, and audit-ready documentation.

Treasury & Cash Management

  • Partner with the Head of Finance to execute global cash flow management, including forecasting, liquidity optimization, and intercompany funding.
  • Manage banking relationships, payment platforms, and international cash operations.
  • Develop strategies for capital efficiency and working capital optimization.
  • Oversee credit card programs, merchant accounts, and treasury automation initiatives.

Accounts Payable & Procurement Controls

  • Oversee all vendor payment processes with a focus on accuracy, timeliness, and internal control compliance.
  • Implement spend management systems, approval workflows, and policy adherence.
  • Partner cross-functionally to optimize payment terms and vendor relationships.
  • Ensure alignment between AP, Procurement, and Treasury for cash flow predictability.

Accounts Receivable & Revenue Operations

  • Oversee global receivables management and credit controls across DTC, wholesale, and retail channels.
  • Partner with Sales Operations and Retail teams to ensure accurate and timely revenue recognition.
  • Implement and maintain robust collections processes and risk management policies.
  • Lead reconciliations between e-commerce, POS, and accounting systems.

Bookkeeping, Payroll & General Accounting

  • Manage day-to-day accounting operations — including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and fixed asset management.
  • Oversee payroll accounting, equity accounting, and employee expense reimbursement.
  • Ensure alignment and data integrity between HRIS, ERP, and payroll systems.

Systems, Process & Automation Leadership

  • Serve as the systems architect for accounting and controllership processes — ensuring integration, automation, and scalability.
  • Drive ERP and system optimization (e.g., NetSuite, Looker, Tropic, etc.).
  • Continuously improve workflows, internal controls, and data accuracy across all financial systems.
  • Partner with FP&A to create a single source of financial truth across Accounting and Finance.

Audit, Tax & Compliance

  • Coordinate annual audits and statutory filings across domestic and international entities.
  • Manage relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, and consultants.
  • Oversee sales tax, income tax, and compliance filings, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Maintain compliance with international accounting standards, import/export regulations, and financial reporting laws.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing hybrid accounting team (onshore and offshore).
  • Develop team capabilities in systems, automation, and analytical accounting.
  • Foster a culture of accuracy, ownership, and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with FP&A and Operations to align accounting insights with business strategy.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA required; MBA or CMA a plus).
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting and controllership experience, ideally in omnichannel retail, consumer goods, or eCommerce.
  • Deep technical expertise in US GAAP, consolidations, intercompany transactions, and multi-entity environments.
  • Proven track record leading Treasury, AP, AR, Payroll, and General Ledger functions at scale.
  • Strong systems orientation — experience with NetSuite, Looker, DrivePoint, or similar financial systems.
  • Demonstrated success managing onshore/offshore accounting teams.
  • Exceptional attention to detail combined with strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to operate strategically while maintaining a hands-on approach in a fast-paced, growth environment.

Preferred Attributes

  • Systems thinker with a bias toward automation, standardization, and scalability.
  • Deep understanding of omnichannel dynamics — eCommerce, retail, and wholesale.
