Job Summary
The Configuration Manager leads the configuration management (CM) function across the product lifecycle, from engineering prototype through to high-volume manufacturing and postdelivery support. This role is responsible for defining, managing, and continuously improving configuration management and change control processes to ensure data integrity, traceability, and efficient product realization. The Configuration Manager also supervises the Configuration Management and Document Control teams, providing leadership, mentoring, and performance management to support departmental and company-wide objectives.

Leadership, People Management, and HR Duties
- Supervise, mentor, and develop the Configuration Management and Document Control
- Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, team check-ins, and annual performance
- Identify training needs and development opportunities for direct reports; provide coaching, feedback, and growth planning.
- Participate in recruiting, interviewing, and hiring for CM and Document Control roles; onboard and train new team members.
- Promote a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and cross-functional
- Ensure team adherence to company policies, procedures, and HR standards, including time and attendance, conduct, and compliance.
- Collaborate with Human Resources on employee relations issues, corrective actions, and career development planning.
Process Ownership and Cross-Functional Leadership
- Own and continuously improve configuration management and document control policies, procedures, and documentation within ERP and PLM systems.
- Lead cross-functional initiatives to optimize the accuracy, efficiency, and scalability of CM and DC practices.
- Develop and deliver training programs and documentation (e.g., Knowledge Base articles, SOPs, flowcharts) on configuration control, ERP usage, document control, and change management best practices.
- Facilitate and lead configuration-related meetings, including Change Control Board (CCB) sessions.
ERP and Data Management
- Oversee accurate and timely data entry into the ERP system for all configurable items, including:
- Electronic components and PCBAs
- Cables, mechanical parts, and assemblies
- Firmware and software releases
- Assembly and test fixtures
- Special processes and finishes
- Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), Production Lists (PLs), and Service Production Lists (SPLs).
- Coordinate with Engineering, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Quality, and other departments to ensure complete and accurate product datasets.
- Integrate drawings, instructions, fixture references and external facing documentation into BOMs to support production planning, capacity management, and traceability.
Change Management & Document Control
- Gate and manage the flow of content changes from redline proposal to release, ensuring accuracy and stakeholder approval.
- Support and improve the Issue System (ISS), Change Orders, and other related
- Oversee and standardize document control processes, including document creation, review, approval, distribution, and archival.
- Ensure timely and accurate release of controlled documents, drawings, and records in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate Approved Manufacturer Lists (AMLs) in coordination with Engineering and Supply Chain.
- Oversee the release and revision of a wide range of documentation:
- Mechanical/electrical drawings, electronic schematics, source control documents
- Work instructions (internal build/test, CM use, field instructions)
- Quality and process documentation (procedures, forms, and templates)
- Ensure released content complies with configuration and document control standards and supports efficient downstream use.
- Monitor document control metrics and implement continuous improvements to enhance efficiency, traceability, and compliance.
- Serve as escalation point for document control issues and process deviations.
Quality and Continuous Improvement
- Support implementation of Quality Management System (QMS) processes, including:
- NCR (Non-Conformance Reports)
- CA (Corrective Actions)
- CI (Continuous Improvement)
- RMA (Return Material Authorizations)
- Lead root cause analysis and implement changes to prevent recurring configuration or documentation issues.
- Measure and improve the reliability and responsiveness of CM and DC processes and tools.
Position Requirements
- Associate’s degree in a technical or business-related field; Bachelor’s preferred, or equivalent experience (10+ years in CM, PLM/ERP, or document control systems).
- Minimum 3 years in a supervisory or team leadership
- Extensive experience with ERP and PLM systems in a manufacturing or product development environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio), Adobe Acrobat, and task management tools such as JIRA.
- Strong understanding of revision control, BOM structures, document control systems, and product lifecycle management.

Physical Requirements

Pay/Salary Information Pay scale for this position depending on experience- $128K - $134K Annually
