VP Of Engineering
At Tulea Health, we are compassionate partners seeking to elevate the infusion experience for patients through collaboration with the health systems that serve them. We create industry-leading Ambulatory Infusion Centers that deliver comfortable, consistent, caring therapy experiences personalized for each patient. Our innovative model does not compete with our health system partners but rather operates under their brand. We provide the financial investment, resources, personnel, supporting technology, and specialized expertise needed to drive success through a performance-oriented partnership model.
ROLE SUMMARY
The Vice President of Engineering reports to the CEO and is responsible for leading and implementing the company's technology strategy as well as executing the tactics that will ensure the company’s technological resources are aligned with our business needs. This leader will build and evolve our technology infrastructure through a combination of off-the-shelf technology and complementary development and interoperability. We expect this will result in the availability of a robust, contemporary, flexible platform that supports both exceptional care delivery for the patients we serve and enhanced productivity for our team members across our customer sites.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Define and drive the long-term technical vision, architecture, and roadmap in alignment with company and product goals.
- Act as a thought partner to the CEO and leadership team, contributing to company strategy, fundraising narratives, and operational planning.
- Build and scale a high-performing engineering team, including defining org structure, leveling, hiring plans, and career ladders.
- Create a culture of accountability, psychological safety, and continuous improvement within engineering.
Technical Oversight
- Provide hands-on technical leadership—review architecture decisions, unblock teams, and guide tradeoffs in areas like scalability, security, and tech debt.
- Lead the team in designing systems that are secure, compliant (HIPAA/SOC2), and performant, especially in a healthcare data context.
- Oversee engineering execution and delivery, ensuring projects are completed on time and to spec without sacrificing quality or sustainability.
- Foster engineering excellence with practices like clean code, automated testing, code reviews, and documentation.
Process & Infrastructure
- Define and continuously improve engineering processes, workflows, and toolchains (e.g., agile/scrum, incident response, on-call rotation).
- Lead the evolution of our infrastructure and DevOps practices to support scaling, automation, observability, and developer experience.
- Own the technical budget and vendor management—including cloud spend, dev tools, and contractors/partners.
- Champion security best practices and proactive risk management across all systems and data flows.
WE’D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF YOU…
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 3+ years in engineering leadership roles, ideally in high-growth startups.
- Track record of leading and scaling engineering teams from early stages through growth; comfortable being both strategic and hands-on as needed.
- Strong technical background — you’ve built and architected production systems and can guide teams across backend, frontend, infrastructure, and DevOps.
- Proven ability to build scalable, secure systems that support rapid iteration while meeting reliability and compliance requirements.
- Experience in healthtech or regulated environments (e.g., HIPAA, SOC 2, HITRUST, FDA) with an understanding of how to navigate technical decisions within those constraints.
- Deep familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) and modern engineering workflows (CI/CD, infrastructure as code, observability tooling).
- Strong instincts around technical hiring, team design, and performance management. You’ve built diverse teams and mentored engineers into senior and lead roles.
- Demonstrated experience in cross-functional collaboration with Product, Design, and other business units; you thrive in a product-led environment.
- Comfort working in agile, fast-paced environments and leading teams through ambiguity and change.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills—you can explain complex technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders.
- Passion for building in healthcare, wellness, or digital health. You care deeply about the real-world impact of your work.
Bonus Experience (Nice to Have)
- Experience as the first or founding engineering leader at a startup.
- Familiarity with EHR integrations, FHIR/HL7, or healthcare data standards.
- Background working on data-intensive applications, including analytics, patient dashboards, or AI/ML in healthcare.
- Experience with compliance automation, security audits, or tools like Drata, Vanta, or Tugboat Logic.
