Outsource Artist

We are looking for an Outsource Artist to be a part of our internal Outsourcing team. As an Outsource Artist, you will assist in the management, scheduling, and creation of art assets that are developed by our outsourcing partners. This individual will help ensure that outsourced work meets the quality and technical standards required for the game while staying within the project’s timeline and budget. This position will report to the Outsourcing Art Director and work closely with the Lead Outsource Producer. 

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with external vendors to create high-quality 2D/3D assets across a range of disciplines that align with the project’s style and vision
  • Own the review and evaluation of incoming art assets for technical and artistic accuracy, making necessary adjustments or communicating revisions to the vendor
  • Ensure all submitted assets are completed per the established process guidelines, adhere to performance guidance, and that all source files have been included
  • Identify assets from our asset library that are strong candidates to be ported and used in current games
  • Own tracking progress, delivery schedules, and ensure deadlines and budgeting requirements are met for all assets under areas of ownership
  • Create creative briefs by collecting relevant information from stakeholders, collecting reference images, creating proxy models, and writing clear and concise descriptions of our aesthetic and technical goals
  • Assist internal team in documenting guidelines and specifications for outsourced vendors to follow
  • Coordinate with other departments like art, animation, design, and technical art to ensure smooth integration of outsourced assets into the game and handoff to downstream teams
  • Maintain regular communication with external teams, facilitating smooth collaboration and problem resolution between internal and external teams
  • Create and update JIRA tasks for external vendor work and internal work relating to outsourced assets
  • Update and manage sheets for tracking assets, vendors, and upcoming asset needs

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in game development in an outsource artist role with a solid understanding of game pipelines and asset creation
  • Experience working with a variety of modern art pipelines including modular, organic, and hard surface construction as well as managing considerations for downstream dependencies
  • Experience in Unreal 5 or 4
  • Demonstrated experience working with realistic art styles
  • Strong knowledge of 3D modeling, texturing, and digital art tools Zbrush, Maya, and Substance Painter
  • Effective communication skills and ability to give clear feedback to external teams
  • Experience with scheduling tools (eg. Jira) and coordinating a project schedule
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks/priorities and meet tight deadlines

Preferences

  • Familiarity with version control software like Perforce
  • Familiarity with with task tracking tools like Jira and Taiga

The estimated base pay range for this role is: $82,000 - $140,000 USD
