About the job
We are seeking a leader who will own the strategy, design and execution of enterprise-wide learning and development initiatives. The Senior Director of Talent Development will lead the talent and leadership development team to design and build solutions that amplify the development experience to better identify, grow, and retain our leaders and talent in a remote environment.
This individual will focus on creating innovative, effective, and scalable programs that support employee growth & leadership development. The role requires a dynamic leader who can collaborate with cross-functional teams to foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development, with the ability to assess business needs and align training programs with strategic organizational goals.
Specifically in the first year focusing on:
- Designing and developing a complete leadership development offering based on our newly created Leadership Expectations. You will leverage our Leadership Expectations to ensure a high caliber of leadership, and support our leaders in their development with targeted coaching and targeted learning opportunities.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning, define Twilio’s learning philosophy, and develop and execute Twilio's learning strategy in alignment with organizational goals.
- Operating our Learning & Development team at scale to meet the needs of Twilions, Teams and Twilio. These programs will focus on building necessary skills and offering career advancement opportunities to ensure sustained growth.
Responsibilities
In this role, you’ll:
- People Leadership: lead, coach and develop a team to create even greater breadth and depth in Learning & Development programs and processes.
- Strategic and Scalable Program Leadership: design and implement pilot programs; create program vision, measurement approach, project plans, change management plans, while planning for global scalability and alignment to our Twilio Magic values. Scope includes: Manager Development, Leadership Development, and Development for all. Report on learning outcomes, ROI, and overall employee development progress to senior leadership.
- Learning and Development: Drive data-driven development approaches for all employee segments, with emphasis on equipping our people leaders to help all Twilions thrive. Enable digital/virtual learning through our LMS and other virtual platforms.
- Stakeholder Management: Build trusting relationships, work closely with HR Business Partners, People team COEs, and business leaders – tailoring learning programs from individual contributors through executives, and building or iterating on talent development processes. Collaborate with external vendors to supplement in-house L&D initiatives and ensure the delivery of cutting-edge programs.

Required: 15+ years of experience in Leadership, Talent and/or Organizational Development;
- 5+ years in a leadership capacity where you created global strategies and delivered proven leadership development impact
- Strong executive presence and the ability to influence and align the executive team;
- A thought leader in the leadership development field with a natural curiosity for leveraging leading edge practices across multiple fields and industries;
- Extensive experience building and facilitating talent development solutions across multiple modalities
- Ability to navigate horizontally in the organization and create strong collaborative, cross-functional relationships;
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Desired:
- Broad global experience;
- Executive coaching experience desirable;
- An MBA or masters in leadership, organizational psychology or a related field preferred.
Location
This role will be remote, but is not eligible to be hired in CA, CT, NJ, NY, PA, WA.
Travel
We prioritize connection and opportunities to build relationships with our customers and each other. For this role, you may be required to travel occasionally to participate in project or team in-person meetings.

The estimated pay ranges for this role are as follows:
- Based in Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Vermont or Washington D.C.: $203,100.00-$253,900.00
- Based in New York, New Jersey, Washington State, or California (outside of the San Francisco Bay area): $215,100.00-$268,800.00
- Based in the San Francisco Bay area, California:$238.900.00-$298,600.00
- This role may be eligible to participate in Twilio’s equity plan and corporate bonus plan. All roles are generally eligible for the following benefits: health care insurance, 401(k) retirement account, paid sick time, paid personal time off, paid parental leave.
The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location.
