About the job
This position is needed to Twilio is growing rapidly and seeking an experienced Sr. Manager, International Payroll to support the payroll operations countries in APJ. Working overseeing the International Payroll Team in India. The person in this role will lead the international team located in India.
Responsibilities
In this role, you’ll:
- Oversee International payroll operations for countries in APAC (Australia, Hong Kong, India, Singapore, Japan)
- Manage ad hoc projects related to payroll and benefits for our international entities
- Oversee and ensure compliance with worldwide, payroll related statutory regulations and internal controls
- Scale and execute on the global payroll roadmap
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll for all employees by implementing procedural controls and cross-checks
- Approval of all payments related to payroll and outside of payroll related to pension, payroll taxes e.t.c
- Excellent customer service as part of the Service Now Ticket resolution platform.
- Oversee and/or directly support daily activities and escalate to appropriate areas where relevant.
- Collaborates with the cross functional teams for the proper administration of payroll accounting and employee-related accruals
- Experience implementing or migrating payroll systems, integrating M&A payrolls, or leading large-scale standardization projects.
- Familiarity with equity compensation administration in a global organization.

*Required:
- 15 yrs+ of experience managing payroll processing internationally with working experience in accounting principles, the impact of payroll activities on financial statements, and the ability to partner with the cross functional to resolve issues as they arise on a timely basis.
- 5 yrs+ of proven experience managing and developing a team of payroll professionals.
- Expert knowledge of APAC payroll withholding taxes, related tax filings, compliance frameworks, statutory benefits, employment regulations, and complex pay element handling (e.g., equity, executive compensation).
- Strong working relationship experience with outsourced payroll vendors and using HRIS platforms (preferably Workday).
- Strong customer service mentality.
- Experience in Stock Transactions and special taxation rules
- Experience with processing equity transactions
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance or another relevant field
- High attention to detail
- Discipline and ability to meet tight deadlines, and prioritize competing workloads
- Excellent written, and verbal communication skills in English
- Very strong analytical and problem-solving skills while keeping customer experience top of mind
- Experience in Workday, Oracle ERP and Payroll outsourced vendors.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel (VBA, pivot tables, complex formulas) for reporting, data analysis, and validation controls.
- Clear, empathetic communicator—able to explain complex payroll concepts to a variety of audiences.
- Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to balance competing priorities and meet tight deadlines.
- Flexible and open-minded, comfortable with change, ambiguity, growth, and working across multiple time zones, sometimes outside of the conventional workday when urgent matters arise.
- Track record of improving or transforming payroll operations across regions, including automation and standardization.
- Experience operating within a shared service model or a high-growth, globally matrixed technology company collaborating across multiple time zones.
- A proven track record of using technology (automation, system workflows) to eliminate manual work and enhance the employee payroll experience.
Desired:
- Identify areas of opportunity to streamline payroll process, and reduce reliance on manual processes and procedures by implementing system related tools and interfaces
- Proactively identify areas of process improvement within global payroll operations and implement solutions to automate and streamline processes to scale and drive efficiencies while maintaining strong quality controls.
- Identify and support remediation of payroll integration issues.
- Review and approve payroll transactions.
- Ensure correct taxation of payroll & benefits according to country-specific regulations.
- Ensure timely filings with appropriate government authorities.
- Develop and lead a successful Payroll Team, cultivating a high performing, professional and supportive environment.
- Manage and/or oversee year-end payroll activities globally.
- Partner with cross functional groups within the Company including Legal, Finance, Equity and Human Resource teams on global equity, global mobility and new business activities to ensure global payroll needs are identified, considered and communicated.
- Assist with the preparation of special reports for senior management.
- Serve as subject matter expert for payroll, payroll taxes and payroll systems for employees and internal partners. Assist and consult on ad-hoc projects. Advise senior management and business leads on tax related matters.
Location
- This role will be remote, and based in India. (Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Maharashtra, Delhi)
Travel
