About the job
This position is needed to drive next-generation innovation by designing, prototyping, and implementing forward-looking technical solutions for Twilio’s innovation team.
As an Sr Architect, you’ll leverage your depth of technical knowledge, architectural vision, and leadership to pioneer transformative ideas. This high-impact, entrepreneurial role empowers you to shape the future of Twilio, experiment with emerging technologies, and directly influence our trajectory in a competitive tech landscape. You will be the bridge to guide technical decisions that ensure our experiments can be quickly moved to production, if successful. This role is accountable for ensuring they understand Twilio’s enterprise architecture and can help ensure scalability, extensibility in our technical design as well as call out one way door decisions when defining architectures.

Responsibilities
In this role, you'll:
- Architect and prototype scalable, high-performance solutions using modern technologies.
- Experiment and iterate on new product ideas, leveraging AI, machine learning, and emerging tech.
- Lead technical direction, guiding and mentoring engineering teams throughout the development lifecycle.
- Partner cross-functionally to align prototypes with business opportunities and strategic goals.
- Mentor a group of software development engineers across US and India
- Communicate technical vision and results clearly to stakeholders and executive leadership.

Required:
- 15+ years in architecture or principal engineering roles within innovative, fast-paced environments.
- Applied fraud detection and governance framework experience.
- Familiarity with AI, machine learning, and LLMs with experience deploying models or AI-driven projects.
- Demonstrated success designing large-scale, high-performance architectures across AWS & Azure
- Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with proven ability to drive technical direction.
- Excellent communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Proficiency in multiple programming languages (e.g., JavaScript, Python, Java, Go).
- Experience with both front-end (React, Angular) and back-end (Node.js, Spring, SpringBoot) development.
- Deep understanding of database technologies (SQL and NoSQL) and their tradeoffs.
Desired:
- Experience contributing to open source or tech innovation communities.
- Track record of rapid prototyping and iterative product development.
- Exposure to distributed systems and high-reliability platforms.
- Knowledge of risk management best practices in experimental projects.
- Experience working with global teams and remote-first environments.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for emerging technologies.
- Advanced problem-solving skills with ability to anticipate technology trends.
- Background in engineering and technical architecture roles.

This role will be remote and based in the USA.

Compensation
*Please note this role is open to candidates outside of California, Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Vermont, Washington D.C., and Washington State. The information below is provided for candidates hired in those locations only.
The estimated pay ranges for this role are as follows:
- Based in Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Vermont or Washington D.C. : $207,200.00 - $259,000.00
- Based in New York, New Jersey, Washington State, or California (outside of the San Francisco Bay area): $219,360.00 - $274,200.00
- Based in the San Francisco Bay area, California: $248,400.00 - 304,600.00
This role may be eligible to participate in Twilio’s equity plan and corporate bonus plan. All roles are generally eligible for the following benefits: health care insurance, 401(k) retirement account, paid sick time, paid personal time off, paid parental leave.
The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location.
