Portfolio:  West Brighton 

Schedule: Monday–Friday, On-Site + On-Call for Emergencies 

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $85,000- $115,000 based on location and level of experience plus discretionary bonus

Role and Responsibilities Overview   

The Community Manager – Affordable Housing is responsible for the overall operations, compliance, and resident experience of an affordable or mixed-income multifamily community. This role sits at the intersection of regulatory compliance, team leadership, and resident service, ensuring the community operates smoothly, remains audit-ready, and provides a safe, respectful environment for residents.  

You’ll lead on-site teams across leasing, maintenance, and administration while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local housing regulations. Success in this role means strong occupancy, compliant files, engaged staff, and residents who feel supported and heard.  

This role is ideal for a hands-on leader who understands the realities of regulated housing, values structure and accountability, and leads with empathy and professionalism.  

Community Operations & Compliance 

  • Oversee daily operations of the affordable housing community, ensuring compliance with HUD, LIHTC, Fair Housing, and applicable local and state regulations 
  • Ensure resident files, certifications, recertifications, and documentation are accurate, complete, and audit-ready  
  • Partner with compliance teams and agencies during audits, file reviews, and inspections 
  • Ensure all policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements are followed consistently 
  • Present comprehensive property performance updates to clients, inclusive of financial results, leasing activity, maintenance trends, and physical asset condition. 
  • Support client communication with timely, thoughtful responses to questions, concerns, and ad-hoc information requests. 

 

Resident Experience Oversight 

  • Provide high-quality customer service to residents and prospects, responding to concerns promptly and professionally 
  • Oversee in coordination with compliance move-in, renewals, transfers, and waitlist management in compliance with program requirements 
  • Support conflict resolution and ensure consistent follow-up to maintain a positive community environment  
  • Communicate clearly with residents regarding policies, procedures, and expectations  

 

Financial & Administrative Management 

  • Manage rent collections, delinquency follow-up, and coordination with accounting teams 
  • Support budget execution, expense control, and basic financial reporting 
  • Ensure timely and accurate data entry into property management systems  

 

Team Leadership & Development 

  • Lead, coach, and support on-site staff including leasing, maintenance, and administrative team members 
  • Hire, train, schedule, and evaluate staff performance as needed 
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and resident-focused team culture 
  • Serve as a steady on-site leader during high-volume or high-stress periods 

 

Qualifications 

  • Experience managing affordable or regulated multifamily housing communities 
  • Working knowledge of HUD, LIHTC, Fair Housing, and related compliance requirements 
  • Strong customer service mindset with professional communication skills 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, resident-facing environment 
  • Proven ability to lead on-site teams and hold staff accountable 
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail 

 

Education & Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree required  
  • 3+ years of multifamily property management experience, including affordable or regulated housing 
  • Prior experience as a Community Manager is required   
  • Familiarity with property management software (e.g., Yardi, RealPage) 
  • New York Real Estate License preferred or willingness to obtain 

Work Environment & Physical Requirement: 

  • On-site office and residential community environment 
  • Regular walking of the property and interaction with residents 
  • Ability to lift or carry up to 25 pounds occasionally 
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods

This compensation range is specific to the State of New York and includes the range of factors considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; certifications; etc. We would not anticipate that the individual hired into this role would be near the top end of the compensation range, but that decision will be dependent on the facts associated with each specific individual’s relevant experience for the role.  A reasonable estimate of the range is below.
