Network Engineer (Onsite in Wilsonville, OR)

JOB SUMMARY

The Network Engineer is responsible for the design, deployment, configuration, and optimization of LAN and WAN infrastructure to maintain the security, health, and availability of company networks. This position's primary focus is handling day-to-day and project tasks around the management, implementation and configuration improvements of our network stack: firewalls, routers, switches, wireless access points, VPNs and WAN connections. This position will work collaboratively with a small team of network and system administrators, including the Sr. Network Engineer Specialist and the IT Infrastructure Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Configure and maintain Twist’s LAN and WAN operations across 7 locations and a cloud data center.
  • Work under the guidance the Sr. Network Engineer with the planning and design of data and voice networks, keeping up to date on current and emerging technologies
  • Upgrade network hardware and software components as required, including patches and firmware updates.
  • Receive escalated network troubleshooting and resolve related requests and problems submitted through our ticketing system. Work with vendors, and other members of Twist, for issues investigation to resolution as necessary.
  • Monitor security and hardware logs to proactively monitor network performance, security, and capacity.
  • Implementation and administration of network monitoring, alerting and capacity planning tools and services
  • Develop and maintain network security and operations via change control to modify configurations, such as firewall Policies, ACLs, and port configurations.
  • Maintain documentation for network infrastructure and services (IE. topology diagrams)
  • Manage the network equipment lifecycle - maintaining network inventory, renewing licensing and support contracts, and planning future replacements.
  • Perform the occasionally scheduled network maintenance during night and weekends
  • Installation of new network and server gear into racks, including traveling as necessary for on-premise equipment to new and existing offices
  • Provide 24x7 on-call coverage as part of an on-call rotation
  • Act as a network subject matter expert for cross-functional IT projects, ensuring network projects meet design requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years working knowledge of data, voice, video and wireless communication solutions
  • 3+ years of engineering and deploying networking technologies (route, switch, firewall, and wireless)
  • 3+ years working in a small to midsize enterprise environment
  • 3+ years working on network gear located at remote locations
  • Experience in managing highly available and fault-tolerant network solutions
  • Experience troubleshooting and resolve connectivity issues from any point on the network
  • Experience managing solutions with network security principles and network management best practices, such as Network Access Control (Cisco ISE, 802.11x)
  • Experience in monitoring and managing cloud networking (AWS, Azure, etc)
  • Experience with QoS, WAN optimization and load balancing solutions
  • Strong knowledge of WAN technologies (IPSec, and SD-WAN)
  • Demonstrate the ability and desire, to adapt and learn new software, applications, and evolving technologies
  • Experience working in ticketing and project systems (Jira, Service-Now)
  • Ability to execute projects in a fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines with minimal errors
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds
  • Domestic or international travel may be required
  • BA/BS degree in CS, MIS, or other equivalent IT field or equivalent experience.

  • Experience with Palo Alto Firewalls w/PCNSA, PCNSE, or PCCET certification
  • Experience with Network Performance Monitoring
  • Experience with Cisco IOS, Nexus, and Meraki w/CCNA or CCNP certification
  • Experience with Cradlepoint routers
  • FortiNet NSE4/5/6/7 certification
