Data Engineer

Arlington, Virginia

At Two Six Technologies, we build, deploy, and implement innovative products that solve the world’s most complex challenges today. Through unrivaled collaboration and unwavering trust, we push the boundaries of what’s possible to empower our team and support our customers in building a safer global future.

Overview

Would you like to use your data engineering skills to help policy makers, corporate leaders, and operators make sense of increasingly complex information spaces? Two Six Technologies provides Information Advantage to Government, Military, and private sector customers tasked with mission critical decision making.

Our products collect and synthesize huge quantities of publicly available data in multiple languages, then serve that data to be easily queried by our expert analysts and used in machine learning analytics. As a data engineer you will work with product engineering teams, data scientists, devops, and architects, to apply best practices for data storage and retrieval in the design and implementation of new products, features, and capabilities.

You are very comfortable with both SQL and noSQL databases, in particular the Elasticsearch stack, which is at the heart of our high-volume, data-driven products and capabilities. Having previous experience with data in multiple languages is a huge plus! You have experience working with AWS, Linux, and ideally with technologies like Docker and Kubernetes. You also have worked as a member of remote engineering teams in Agile software development environments. You should be excited about organizing data in a way that supports the latest in Natural Language Processing analytics, including generative AI.

Most importantly you share our passion for applying technology to solve hard problems and finding innovative ways to derive insights from high-volume data.

Responsibilities:

  • Developing and enhancing high volume data storage and querying solutions that enable analysis by both human experts and machine learning solutions
  • Operating in a collaborative, agile environment, with a focus on taking action and working closely with peers to enable team success
  • Creating proofs-of-concept and prototypes to quickly test ideas, as well as designing and building scalable, production-ready solutions
  • Considering security best practices at every phase of software development
  • Continuously learning and improving
  • Working within Agile software development methodologies and being an active part of our continuous improvement efforts
  • Working in a fully remote team with a diverse set of skills and experiences
  • Independently identifying and solving problems, and questioning assumptions in pursuit of the right solutions
  • Actively participating in the peer code review process
  • Working closely with application engineers, mostly working in Python, to implement scalable solutions for loading, generating, aggregating, and analyzing data
  • Creating and executing both manual and automated testing

Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience with the full Elasticsearch stack, including indexing and search APIs, and Kibana, ideally with both locally hosted and Elastic hosted instances
  • Experience with SQL database technologies, ideally Postgres
  • Experience with AWS or similar cloud-based infrastructure
  • Experience with Python
  • Experience with the design, development, testing, and support of scalable, data-driven applications deployed to production SaaS environments
  • Experience working independently and as a part of an Agile team

Optional Skills / Domain Experience

  • Experience with optimizing the processing, storage, and querying of data in multiple languages
  • Hands on experience managing the full Elastic stack, including deployment, infrastructure, security, and backup & recovery, is not required but definitely a plus
  • Elastic certification
  • AWS certification
  • Experience with data science and advanced analytics

If you believe you belong to any of the categories of protected veterans listed below, please indicate by making the appropriate selection. As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

A "recently separated veteran" means any veteran during the three-year period beginning on the date of such veteran's discharge or release from active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval, or air service.

An "Armed forces service medal veteran" means a veteran who, while serving on active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service, participated in a United States military operation for which an Armed Forces service medal was awarded pursuant to Executive Order 12985.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
