Senior Embedded System Test Engineer
At Two Six Technologies, we build, deploy, and implement innovative products that solve the world’s most complex challenges today. Through unrivaled collaboration and unwavering trust, we push the boundaries of what’s possible to empower our team and support our customers in building a safer global future.
Two Six Technologies is seeking a Senior Embedded Systems Test Engineer to support hands-on testing and validation of embedded cybersecurity hardware systems in lab, prototype, and early production environments. This role is hardware-centric and focuses on testing microcontroller- and FPGA-based systems, system-level integration, and networked device validation.
This is not a web, UI, or Selenium-based test automation role. The ideal candidate has direct experience interacting with physical hardware, debugging embedded systems, and building test workflows that interface with real devices—not simulated environments alone.
What You Will Do
- Develop, maintain, and execute automated and semi-automated tests for embedded hardware systems, including subsystem- and system-level validation.
- Work hands-on with physical devices in lab and prototype environments, supporting bring-up, integration, and system validation activities.
- Support and operate Automated Test Equipment (ATE) and integrate hardware tests into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitLab).
- Write and maintain test scripts, command-line tools, and utilities that interface directly with embedded devices via serial, Ethernet, or other hardware interfaces.
- Analyze test results from hardware execution, identify root causes across hardware, firmware, and system integration layers, and implement corrective improvements.
- Collaborate closely with embedded firmware, software, hardware, and systems engineers to ensure test coverage aligns with evolving designs and configurations.
- Participate in system-level validation, prototype integration testing, and network performance testing to ensure device reliability and performance standards.
- Mentor and support junior engineers on hardware test execution, debugging techniques, and embedded test best practices.
What You Will Need (Basic Qualifications):
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 5+ years of experience in embedded systems testing, hardware testing, or system integration testing.
- Strong experience writing test software in Python, C, C++, or Embedded C for interaction with physical devices.
- Proficiency working in Linux-based environments, including command-line tools and scripting.
- Hands-on familiarity with microcontroller- and/or FPGA-based systems, including device bring-up and debugging.
- Experience using hardware interfaces such as serial/UART, Ethernet, JTAG, or similar.
- Experience with system-level and network-based testing, including traffic generation, throughput measurement, firewall testing, or fuzzing.
- Proven experience maintaining or improving test workflows that run against real hardware, not just simulations.
- Active Top Secret clearance, with willingness to obtain and maintain TS/SCI and Polygraph.
- Ability to work on-site full-time in Arlington, VA, in a lab-based environment.
Nice to Have (Preferred):
- Experience supporting prototype or production hardware in lab or manufacturing-adjacent environments.
- Experience integrating hardware tests into CI/CD pipelines (GitLab, Jenkins).
- Familiarity with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing concepts.
- Firmware or driver experience for Linux or Windows embedded systems.
- Strong understanding of system integration testing and network performance validation.
- Graduate degree in a related technical discipline.
- Active TS/SCI with Polygraph.
Clearance Requirement:
- Active Top Secret clearance, with willingness to obtain TS/SCI and Polygraph
