We are currently seeking a Payroll Specialist to join our high-growth and fast-paced veterinary company. This position’s core responsibilities will be responsible for assisting in the payroll process, time-keeping, benefits management and other support services.
Job Responsibilities:
• Payroll Processing: Administer bi-weekly payroll cycles in Paylocity, for both hourly, salary and 1099 employees
• Time & Attendance: Audit electronic timecards, PTO balances, and schedules, resolving discrepancies directly with managers and supervisors
• System Management: Serve as an internal subject-matter expert for Paylocity Modules and other related systems (e.g., Payroll, Benefits, Time & Labor, Expense, Onboarding)
• Compliance: Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local wage and hour laws and assist with tax filings and year-end W-2 processing
• Reporting: Generate labor distribution reports, compliance documentation, and customized payroll reports for management review
• Training: Provide training and support to new managers using self service tools
• Benefits: Administer benefits enrollment, eligibility tracking, and carrier connections; Collaborate with the reconciliation of monthly activity for payroll and benefits
• Audits: Provide support for benefit, government and financial audits
• Identify process improvement opportunities to increase efficiency and accuracy
• Perform miscellaneous duties and special projects, as needed
Requirements:
• 1-5+ years Payroll, Benefits HRIS experience in a multi-location environment
• Demonstrate sense of urgency and work well under pressure
• Experience in problem solving.
• Ability to become a subject matter expert on various payroll and benefit processes
• A solid understanding of multi-state tax regulations, FLSA requirements, ACA reporting, and benefits administration
• Sharp attention to detail and high degree of accuracy
• Ability to prioritize, multi-task, adapt to and operate in a fast-paced, changing environment with proficiency
• Prompt and professional verbal and written communication skills with a customer service attitude and being able to communicate effectively with vendors and employees at all levels of the organization
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Accounting Systems (Sage Intacct or comparable), and experience with AP systems (Bill/Divvy or similar)
• Local to Chicago and ability to work in office 5 days a week
Compensation:
Highly competitive compensation consisting of base salary and performance bonus
