Communications Counsel (Supervisor)
Tyson & Mendes seeks an attorney, under the title Communications Counsel (Supervisor), who will report to the Partner and Head of the Department. The role will supervise the Communications Counsel, the Education Compliance Coordinator, and the Education Specialist. The role will be an integral part of the firm’s growth strategy as it relates to the development of unparalleled internal and external legal training, thought leadership, and industry-leading innovation.
The attorney must possess strong leadership and decision-making skills, demonstrate expertise in legal and non-legal writing and editing with great attention to detail, and be both a creative and an analytical thinker. This position is responsible for producing high quality work and meeting brand standards across a variety of firm assets, and ensuring alignment and continued excellence within the education team function. The attorney will also be responsible for drafting and editing legal and non-legal content as it relates to assigned marketing and education deliverables, including internal and external facing presentations, trainings, and written materials.

The ideal candidate must have excellent time management skills and be able to manage multiple projects with concurrent deadlines. The attorney must be able to effectively and efficiently prioritize, proactively and clearly communicate, and exercise independent judgment to reach goals and meet deadlines. This person will be responsible for developing and editing legal and non-legal content including educational materials and programming, and continuously exceeding client and internal stakeholder expectations. This candidate must understand and be able to implement the firm’s unique marketing philosophies, presentation strategies, and brand guidelines. The candidate must engage creatively with subject matter and collaborate with all team members to deliver content that engages, educates, and entertains. The candidate must have excellent project, task, and team management skills, and be excited at the prospect of steering an important team toward success.
Responsibilities
INTERNAL EDUCATION PROGRAMMING
- In collaboration with and with oversight from the Partner and Head of the Department, and in collaboration with the Communications Counsel:
- Draft legal education content, internal trainings, and written materials;
- Meet with firm attorneys to prepare and execute content for education deliverables;
- Draft legal content for firm learning, training, and education programs, including Tyson & Mendes University, Trial Academy, Book Club, TM AIR, Nuclear Verdict Defense Institute, CLEs, recorded and live trainings, and other educational programs as needed;
- Draft legal courses, learning materials, and curricula for programs to meet the needs of the firm, including collaboration with subject matter experts across the firm
- In collaboration with the Education Specialist:
- Ensure all educational deliverables deliver unparalleled training and development to firm attorneys, paralegals, and staff;
- Ensure all educational deliverables meet firm and brand guidelines and standards;
- Manage the Learning Management System, optimizing its use for firm employees
- In collaboration with the Education Compliance Coordinator:
- Ensure all educational programs receive proper and appropriate CE and CLE accreditation;
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes;
- Identify opportunities for cross-submission of CE and CLE materials, maximizing value for internal and external stakeholders.
EXTERNAL EDUCATION PROGRAMMING AND MARKETING
- Draft CLE and CE education content for external programming to clients, potential clients, and identified organizations as needed, including presentations and written materials;
- Edit and draft firm newsletter articles to ensure adherence to firm guidelines and brand strategy;
- Strategically identify topics for newsletter articles, targeting areas and offices of growth;
- Assist attorneys with newsletter topic generation and drafting of other marketing materials;
- Collaborate in drafting and submitting all research papers and narratives as required for presentations for claims organizations such as CLM and others;
- Draft and edit non-legal content to advance public relations campaigns and initiatives, including press releases and awards submissions;
- Assist in developing strategic content campaigns across all channels to advance firm growth and meet firm goals;
- Ensure consistent excellence in written product produced on behalf of the firm to clients and potential clients in marketing initiatives;
- Collaborate with Conflicts team to ensure all newsletter topics and topics contained in marketing materials are conflict-free at time of publication or performance;
- Draft attorney speaking proposal submissions;
- Review and edit content for firm websites, including:
- Draft, edit, and finalize attorney biographies in accordance with firm guidelines
- Draft descriptions of cases for the Nuclear Verdicts® tracker, working in collaboration with the Design Coordinator to ensure timely and appropriate updating
- Draft practice descriptions to maintain continuously refreshed materials;
- Identify opportunities for continued brand growth and thought leadership, differentiating the firm from others in the industry.
- Attend regular Interdepartmental meetings and other meetings as needed.
Requirements
- J.D. and active law license in a state in which Tyson & Mendes has an office
- 7+ years as a licensed attorney
- Superior legal writing and editing skills
- Strong verbal communication skills
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Capable of working on multiple projects with concurrent deadlines
- Ability and desire to work and excel in fast-paced environment
- Experience leading a team preferred
- Previous experience developing educational programming a plus
- Excellent ability to work on a team
- Excellent ability to work independently and remotely
- Proficient in Adobe and MS Office Suite

Pay Range
$130,000 - $160,000 USD
