About this role 

You will be a key member of the design leadership team here at Udemy, reporting to the VP of Design & Research. You will be influencing the overall design strategy for the next version of the Udemy Consumer Experience, with a strong focus on re-imagining our mobile experience. You will bring your diverse background and experiences to lead products and features used by millions of learners globally. This is a player-coach role, and you will be hands-on in visualizing and prototyping the next generation of Udemy product features while mentoring your team to scale our vision across screens and devices.. 

You will help champion the needs of learners and instructors who are focused on refining and building new professional skills and devise a design vision that helps us cement our position as the #1 learning product, helping our customers to advance their lives and careers through learning. You will build and lead a design team that partners closely with product managers, researchers, engineers, marketers and content strategists to prioritize, create, and ship simple, elegant, and easy to use features across all platforms. You will be leading the team to high quality and state-of-the-art design work with your keen design sense and leadership experience. Udemy and our global UX team are thriving, and you’ll play an influential role in recruiting and hiring designers for your team and beyond. 

Here’s what you will do

  • Provide hands-on design leadership across our mobile design team to maximize impact for our learners, instructors, and business partners.
  • Partner with your design peers to help drive a coherent and high performing UX across all platforms. 
  • Simplify complex problems by using state of the art UX strategies to create high-performing and highly polished design solutions.
  • Contribute to design processes and internal project planning for Udemy’s product design team.
  • Partner closely with stakeholders across the company to ensure seamless introduction of new products and features with top-notch user experience.
  • Own and evangelize the design and experience vision for our learner experience!

We’re excited to have you because you have…

  • 10+ years of experience in UX, product design and visual design for web and mobile based products. Experience with other device classes is a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience of leading design and mentoring and growing product design teams
  • Experience with user research, design process, design systems and tooling, early usability studies, iterative approach to product development and deployment.
  • A Track record of leading your team through product releases with user facing design from start to finish.
  • Experience with building UX for AI solutions, subscription services or e-learning experiences is a plus.
  • Superior communications skills, ability to facilitate a diverse room of stakeholders and inspire cross-departmental collaboration

Actual compensation for this role is based on several factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, qualifications, experience, and specific work location due to differences in the cost of labor. In addition to a base salary, this role is also eligible for benefits, equity and a bonus.
