Senior Payroll Specialist, LATAM

As the full-time LATAM Senior Payroll Specialist, you will independently work to execute LATAM payroll processing for 4 countries using our third-party payroll vendor and local in-country partners. You will seek to continuously improve our processes and employee engagement. You will report to the Manager, Global Payroll, and work closely with LATAM HR, Legal, Accounting, LATAM Controller, external accounting firm, in-country payroll partners as well as employees and managers.
Work Model:
Flex: This role will typically require onsite work 2-3 days each week, or more depending on business needs. In many locations, the business will set certain days each week that Flex employees are required to be onsite.
Responsibilities:
- Independently manage payroll vendor and in-country partners
- Responsible for compiling, reviewing, auditing monthly changes and payroll register for variances, and timely submission of payroll to our third-party payroll partner for current LATAM countries: Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico
- Responsible for implementing payroll setup for new jurisdictions, including payroll vendor updates and collaborating with internal and external partners
- Partner with internal and external legal teams regarding labor regulations and opinions
- Responsible for & respond to audits performed by local statutory agencies, internal auditors & external auditors
- Partner with in-country partners and our internal and external accounting teams for month/quarter end close reporting for local books
- Create and submit journal entries and reconcile general ledger account for Ultragenyx financials
- Present LATAM accounting details during monthly close meetings
- Responsible for coordinating all statutory payments with LATAM accounting firm
- Create and maintain labor cost analysis
- Recommend policy and procedure changes towards continuous improvement
- Responsible for new concepts and maintenance of GL account setup with payroll vendor
- Understanding and management of accruals and time off policies
- Manage OneView ticketing system for your region and assist with managing Payroll mailbox and internal Ultragenyx payroll ticketing system
- Responsible for managing and validating vacation use, accruals, and timely vacation payments
- Resolve payroll and tax issues quickly, efficiently and with a high degree of customer service; escalating or redirecting if needed
Requirements:
- A degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Management, Human Resources or relevant experience preferred
- 5+ years progressive experience in LATAM payroll
- Fluent in Portuguese, Spanish and English; both oral and written
- Strong understanding of payroll and legislation across multiple jurisdictions in LATAM
- Good knowledge of payroll and benefit regulations in at least one of the above countries
- Understanding of tax regulations of more than one country with preferred knowledge in Brazil
- Understanding and management of accruals and time off policies for Brazil
- Microsoft Office Suite; Particularly Excel skills: formulas, pivot tables, V-look up
- Expertise in liaising and working closely with HR, Benefits, Finance, and third-party payroll vendors.
- Effective analytical and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of basic accounting procedures and principles
- Flexibility to adapt to a fast-evolving environment
- Excellent customer service and team support experience
- Experience with a major HCM system required; prior Ultimate Software experience is a plus
