Position Summary:

The Senior Director will collaborate to develop and execute global & US strategy, with support and counsel for Regional Patient Advocacy & Engagement. The Senior Director may work on both disease specific advocacy, as well as enterprise engagement strategy. Focusing on advocacy to effect change, the Senior Director will work extensively with patients, caregiver and advocacy organizations and all key partners across Ultragenyx teams.  

Work Model: 

Remote: Officially documented as working full-time from home, with travel to Ultragenyx's offices or other locations on occasion as needed.

Responsibilities:

  1. Build and steward authentic relationships based on respect, understanding and advancing patient focused priorities. 
  2. Embed patient and caregiver perspective and strategic insights from our communities across business strategy, accelerating existing efforts and identifying new opportunities to meaningfully partner across the medicines lifecycle. 
  3. Understand and navigate internal stakeholder engagement, ensuring plans reflect cross functional engagement; facilitating the compliant exchange of complex scientific information related to Ultragenyx areas of research, product development and commercialization. 
  4. Partner closely with Government Affairs, Communications and Regulatory to ensure appropriate patient, caregiver and advocacy leader awareness of, and engagement with, regulatory agencies and policymakers on issues of access and reimbursement.  
  5. Demonstrate leadership within the Patient Advocacy team, across Ultragenyx, and externally with the goal of fostering a best-in-class patient advocacy function. 
  6. Oversee the patient advocacy budget, ensuring company resources are used efficiently and effectively, including the management of external strategic partners. 

Requirements:

  1. 10+ years within the biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry  
  2. 10+ years of patient advocacy experience; rare disease experience preferred 
  3. Bachelor's degree is required  
  4. Experience with working with patients, caregivers and advocacy groups across the medicines lifecycle 
  5. Ability to summarize and communicate complex medical and scientific information using terms and concepts that are most relevant, understandable, and appropriate for rare disease communities 
  6. Able to think strategically, with extensive tactical planning and execution experience 
  7. Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills (internal and external) 
  8. Extensive knowledge of all appropriate regulatory, compliance and legal requirements 
  9. Ability to travel 25%

The typical annual salary range for this full-time position is listed below. This range reflects the characteristics of the job, such as required skills and qualifications and is based on the office location noted in this job posting. The range may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location.


This position is eligible for annual bonus and equity incentives. Actual individual pay is determined by demonstrated experience and internal equity alignment.

Pay Range

$247,200 - $305,300 USD
