
Medical Science Liaison
Position Summary:

Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field-based scientific professional within Medical Affairs, responsible for building relationships with key opinion leaders (HCPs) and medical institutions. They provide fair and balanced scientific information, support medical education, and deliver clinical and educational engagement to healthcare professionals, support clinical studies, investigator-initiated research, and strategic initiatives.
Work Model:
Remote: Officially documented as working full-time from home, with travel to Ultragenyx's offices or other locations on occasion as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Identify Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), and establish and maintain scientific relationships with KOLs; connecting to KOLs in academic and community centers, using the science behind our products to support treatment for patients with rare and ultra-rare diseases.
- Act as primary liaison to investigators interested in developing and performing investigator-initiated research
- Develop and execute territory plans in alignment with country-level plans
- Provide clinical presentations and medical information in response to unsolicited questions (as appropriate) in academic, community, healthcare provider settings, and other stakeholders, including payers
- Provide medical information and updates through scientific exchange and disseminate scientific publications and scientific support for appropriate educational initiatives.
- Collaborate with the Clinical Operations organization to enhance patient enrolment in company-sponsored clinical trials by identifying appropriate clinical trial sites and interacting with investigators in ongoing studies
- Provide scientific support at medical congresses
- Work in alignment with the department and company Brand Plan, contributing in a cross-functional manner.
- Provide timely medical insights/information on emerging clinical/scientific teams and opportunities to internal stakeholders
- Be compliant with Ultragenyx Code of Conduct, policies, and procedures, and ensure all activities are compliant with company policies and SOPs.
Requirements:
- Advanced degree in clinical specialty (MD, PhD, PharmD) and 2+ years of MSL experience strongly preferred.
- Rare disease experience preferred, particularly in metabolic genetic diseases
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills required
- Demonstrated experience in effectively presenting clinical/scientific information required
- Expert understanding of the local health care delivery system and its impact on patient care and regional medical care

- Ability to create materials such as reports and presentations for inside and outside the organization, and present/speak to groups
- Time and territory management skills required
- Approximately 50-60% travel is required; overnight travel is required as needed
- Fluency in English
