Manager, Data Engineering - Hybrid
ULTRA MOBILE is seeking a talented Manager, Data Engineering to join the Enterprise Information Management (EIM) in Costa Mesa, CA! Individual reports to Senior Manager, Data Engineering. Role is Hybrid.
This role is a hybrid opportunity that requires a local commutable distance to the HQ Costa Mesa, CA office as needed.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Manager, Data Engineering is a member of the EIM team that provides technical and resource management leadership in the delivery of daily operations of Data Engineering and Enablement teams. You will be a hands-on leader who will drive the importance of purpose-built data capabilities and is passionate about “data-driven” decisions. Serve as one of the Product Owners for 24/7 Data Engineering Operations, including stakeholder engagement with cross-functional engineering teams and business leaders is key to successfully providing solutions that ensure the consistency, accuracy, availability, and security of our data.
This role leads teams that designs, develops, and test data integrations, ensuring adherence to standards, conformity to business requirements, delivery within commitments, and the evolution of the Data Lake/Warehouse as we leverage Modern Cloud Technologies including (AWS, Snowflake!).
Your usual day of awesomeness includes:
- Hands-on technical leadership for your team performance, mentoring, training, upskilling, and working side-by-side with your team of Engineers.
- Leading the daily operations of the data engineering teams by example, leveraging UVNV Inc. core values to establish credibility and optimize the team’s value.
- Serve as a Product Owner in Agile for Data Engineering ‘data products’ roadmap, intake, refinement, prioritization, grooming/sizing, and delivery.
- Developing effective data products and integration solutions to transform, store, and retrieve company data assets.
- Lead the collaboration with analysts, data scientists, data engineers, and business teams to recommend and improve data products that support business processes.
- Advance our Data Engineering stack through leveraging serverless, CI/CD, terraform, orchestration, data modeling as needed, development of our ETL/Data pipelines, DBT, and more.
- Responsible for the accuracy, consistency and applicability of the data engineering team’s delivery.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science / Statistics / Math or equivalent experience.
- 4+ years of experience performing data engineering services.
- 2+ years of experience leading technical teams including Agile framework delivery.
- Strong Data Engineering background with expertise in Python, ETL, Data Visualization, DBT, and Data Engineering Pipelines.
- 2+ Years of Cloud experience working with AWS services (Lambda, S3, Glue, Aurora, Dynamo, MWAA) and cloud data systems like Snowflake.
- Experienced with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), CI/CD (Git/Bit, CI/CD, Orchestration).
- Experience with coding languages for data manipulation and analysis like Python or R for data engineering and backend development.
- A data product-focused mindset with the ability to understand business requirements to develop systems that conform to enterprise standards and will scale and extend to accommodate those needs.
- Ability to work through a problem logically, identify root causes, and provide practical effective solutions while being detail and process-oriented.
- Excellent written, visual, and oral communication skills, ability to communicate with key business and/or technical partners clearly and succinctly.
- A self-starter who can work without continuous supervision and is highly organized
- Driven sense of ownership, passion to build quality data products on a massive scale in a collaborative and agile environment, and an excitement to learn.
- Amplified attention to detail and excellent communication/collaboration skills.
- Desire to drive data initiatives and articulate the value across the organization.
- Ability to work independently, autonomously, and effectively for value-added outcomes.

In support of the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the range of starting pay for this role is $140,000 - $160,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, actual compensation is influenced by a wide range of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, education, certifications, responsibility, and geographic location.
