Purpose of the Position:

The Senior Marketing Automation Specialist plays a crucial role in developing and executing marketing automation campaigns to generate prospective student inquiries, enhance student and graduate engagement, and build the institution's brand. This position collaborates with stakeholders and the marketing team, leads technical solutions within the Salesforce Marketing Cloud ecosystem, and supports the Marketing Cloud administration. The Senior Marketing Automation Specialist reports to the Manager, Marketing Automation.

What You’ll Do:

  1. Gather and translate business requirements: Elicit and analyze stakeholder requests and requirements for communication campaigns and apply Marketing technology solutions in an accurate, efficient, and reliable manner.
  2. Provide direction on strategy and content for email and SMS campaigns: Conceptualize campaign creation, including journey mapping and content development (including copy and other revisions) based on input of stakeholders, Marketing Strategists, the Automation team, and the creative department.
  3. Lead solution design, building, and monitoring of campaigns: Design, build, and manage ongoing email and SMS automation and journey workflows within Salesforce Marketing Cloud.
  4. Seek out relevant data and use it to make decisions: Generate datasets using SQL, interpret data, and manage target audiences, segmentation, and suppressions.
  5. Deploy testing plans: Continually optimize campaigns, working with Marketing Analysts when needed. Generate and present results to Marketing team and stakeholders in monthly and ad-hoc reporting including changes made and recommendations for further changes or development.
  6. Identify and investigate complex data issues: Work with stakeholders and IT to map new data points and troubleshoot connections (including API connections). Oversee data hygiene and optimizations.
  7. Perform QA processes: Track and test changes within SFMC and on Automation team campaign builds.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a focus in marketing, Business, Technology, Communications or equivalent experience
  • 4 years of experience in Marketing.
  • 2 years of experience in Automation.
  • Experience with email, SMS and marketing best practices, including deliverability, responsive design, and A/B testing.
  • Salesforce Marketing Cloud or similar marketing automation technology.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong editing, proof reading, and QA skills.
  • Strong analytical and data-evaluation skills.
  • Knowledge of SQL and Ampscript.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to professionally communicate fluently in verbal and written English.
  • Ability to support a diverse and inclusive work environment.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Understands the primary SFMC data model and architecture.
  • Salesforce Marketing Cloud experience strongly preferred, with a preference for Salesforce Marketing Cloud Specialist Certification.
  • HTML knowledge.
  • Server-Side Javascript.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other business tools such as Microsoft Teams.
  • Proficient in Visio or other workflow mapping.

Compliance: 

  • Demonstrate knowledge of, and carefully follow all applicable state laws and rules, federal and state compliance requirements and regulations including those prescribed by the U.S. Department of Education, accrediting agencies, state regulations and internal policies and procedures.  
  • Effectively communicate compliance requirements to other staff as appropriate and quickly escalate any compliance concerns to the Compliance department. 

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • This is a full-time remote position.
  • Home office set up, quiet place to work, and ability to hard wire into high-speed internet connection.
  • May require setup of computer equipment; accommodation consideration available upon request.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends, as needed.

Anticipated starting salary is based on experience and qualifications.

Compensation Range

$88,500 - $95,000 USD
